Executive Report

As we wrap up another term, we would like to take a moment to reflect on some fantastic initiatives and express our gratitude for the hard work and support from our community.

BayFest Success!

A heartfelt congratulations to our College Captains for their exceptional leadership in organising BayFest, a vibrant celebration filled with music, stalls, and community spirit. This initiative not only brought our school community together but also raised over $25,000—an incredible achievement! We extend our gratitude to Nadia Kaye, our Community Liaison Officer, and the Parents and Citizens (P&C) Association for their invaluable support in making this event a success.

Informative ATAR Talk

We would also like to thank Ms. Bowd and Ms. Godby for their efforts in organising an informative session with the University Admissions Centre regarding the ATAR process. A big thank you to all who braved the weather to attend this session; your commitment to our students’ futures is commendable.

Primary Schools Music Immersion Day

We also had a wonderful experience with our Primary Schools Music Immersion Day, where students from our local primary schools attended for a day filled with music working alongside our MEP Bands. A special thanks to Ms. Alonzo, Mr. Akele, Shaun, and Murray for their efforts in making this day a memorable one for our young musicians.

Upcoming NAIDOC Assembly

This Thursday, we are looking forward to our NAIDOC Assembly, which promises to be an enriching experience that celebrates the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

School Spectacular Performances

We are thrilled to announce that 15 of our talented students will be performing in the Secondary Combined Dance at the upcoming School Spectacular.  We are proud to support them as they showcase their talents.

Positive Classroom Environment

As we prepare for the release of Reports for Years 7-10 in the next few days, we are pleased to share that we have seen a significant improvement in our classroom environment. This term, 89% of our classrooms have received a positive score—reflecting our commitment to fostering calm and productive learning spaces for our students.

Wishing You All a Happy and Safe Holiday!

As we approach the holiday break, we want to wish everyone a joyful and restful time. Thank you for your hard work and dedication throughout this term. Let’s take this opportunity to recharge and return with renewed energy for the challenges and successes that lie ahead.

IEF News

A big congratulations to our IEF students Lachlan, Sasha, Javiero, and Harper who proudly represented the Inclusive Education Faculty at BayFest on Thursday night. The team ran the Op4Inclusion second-hand charity stall, which was a hit with students, parents and staff alike!

The stall raised an impressive $140, with all proceeds going directly back to the school to support much-needed audio equipment upgrades. This event was not only a great opportunity to raise funds but also to promote inclusion, teamwork, and community spirit.

Well done to our incredible students for their efforts and to everyone who came by to support the stall!

BayFest 2025

On June 26, Rose Bay Secondary College came alive as BayFest made its return and what a night it was! The college buzzed with energy as students, staff, families and the wider community gathered to enjoy an unforgettable evening of live performances, mouth-watering food and baked treats, and exciting activities for all ages. From start to finish, Bay Fest was a vibrant celebration of the creativity, talent, and spirit that make our school community so special.

The idea to revive BayFest came from our Year 12 School Leaders who fondly remembered attending back in Year 6. For many, it was their first glimpse at the dynamic, welcoming community at Rose Bay Secondary College- a community they would one day lead. Their vision was to recreate that same spark, bringing together the school in a celebration that reflected the deep sense of connection and pride in RBSC.

Not only did the Leaders bring the school community together, but the event and silent auction also raised a significant amount of money to support new school infrastructure. With this, the Captains and SRC extend a huge thank you to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone that got involved and helped make this achievement possible.

Lastly, thank you to Ms Naydia Kaye, whose unwavering support and strong leadership helped guide the Captains to creating an event that will be remembered with pride and gratitude –leaving behind a legacy of true school spirit.

CAPA MUSIC IMMERSION DAY!

On Monday 30th June from 9:30am to 3:00pm, we welcomed around 120 students, including Year 3–6 students from six local primary schools, who joined our RBSC Music students for a day of music-making. Led by Murray Jackson (MEP Director), supported by Mark Akele (Music Teacher), Nadia Kaye (Community Liaison Officer), Jennifer Brown (local primary school bands director) and Maria Alonzo (Head Teacher CAPA), students worked through three challenging pieces and wrapped up the day with an impressive performance in front of parents and primary school staff.

This was our second annual Music Immersion Day, and it was another fantastic opportunity to showcase the inclusive and vibrant culture of Rose Bay Secondary College. With a strong emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and artistic excellence, RBSC offers a wide range of opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to find their place and thrive within our Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) faculty.

RBSC is proud to offer a comprehensive music program that spans across all stages of high school. Music is a mandatory subject in Year 8, followed by engaging elective options in Years 9 and 10. For senior students, we offer both Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension as part of the HSC curriculum. These courses provide students with opportunities to build creativity, refine their artistic expression, and promote cognitive and emotional growth.

Our vibrant co-curricular music ensembles program (MEP) complements the formal music curriculum, giving students regular opportunities to practice, perform, and develop mastery in their craft. In addition to ensemble participation, students can also take part in the school musical—an exciting, large-scale performance experience that brings together talent from across the CAPA faculty, including music, drama, dance, and visual arts. These programs not only enrich students’ artistic development but also foster confidence, teamwork, and a deep love for the performing arts.

The feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive - parents and teachers were impressed with the quality of the performance and how smoothly the event ran. Students clearly enjoyed the experience and loved collaborating with our RBSC musicians.

We are proud to be a school that celebrates the arts and provides a nurturing environment for all students to explore and grow. Thank you to everyone involved in making this special day such a success!

For any further information on any Creative & Performing Arts subjects, feel free to email Ms. Maria Alonzo - Head Teacher CAPA:  Maria.Alonzo2@det.nsw.edu.au

From shaping the bodies to sanding and polishing the final product, everyone has done a great job and put in a lot of effort. The results really speak for themselves!

Well done, Year 11 Industrial Technology Timber – fantastic work!

Bastille Day at RBSC

Bonjour! Bastille Day was an amazing experience for all the French students at Rose Bay Secondary College. We learnt the historical meaning behind Bastille Day and the significance of this French holiday. To celebrate we ventured up to the common room, to enjoy our creamy hot chocolates & crispy croissants. We thank Miss Ayscough & Miss Callinan for helping to run the day, and to Miss Davis for making the delicious hot chocolates and supplying the pastries. We got to enjoy our traditional French food while listening to French songs. Overall, the celebration of Bastille Day was spectacular, and we can't wait for next year. Au revoir!

Written by Ben & Greta (Students of 7Y)

Bonjour RBSC! Comment allez-vous aujourd’hui?

Last week, all students from years 7 to 12 studying French celebrated our very own, Bastille Day (French National Day)! We had so much fun learning about the background of Bastille Day in class and celebrating by eating fabulous French cuisine. We started the exciting day off with 2 educational videos about the background of Bastille Day. We learnt that Bastille Day is on the 14th of July in France, and how this monumental day commemorates the ‘end of the monarchy’ or in other words; the ‘storming of the Bastille’ which took place on the 14th of July 1789. This day marks the turning point in the French Revolution. We decided to celebrate Bastille Day early, in order to honour this day before the holidays. After learning all about Bastille Day, we went down to the kitchen to collect our delicious French treats! Before we got our treats we had to ask; “Je voudrais un croissant s’il vous plait,” which means, “I would like a croissant please.” For our delectable hot chocolate, we had to ask; “Je voudrais un chocolat chaud s’il vous plait,” which means, “I would like a hot chocolate please.” The croissants were purchased from the patisserie, ‘Taste Baguette’. They were fluffy, buttery, authentic, and very generous in size. They were scrumptious, and every student loved them! The hot chocolates were made from scratch by the wonderful Angela Davids. She used full cream milk, cocoa, and milk chocolate to make the hot chocolate exquisite! We all enjoyed our croissants and hot chocolates in the teachers’ common room, and we sat with our friends, listened to French music, and had a blast of a time. Overall, this was such an amazing, fun day and we cannot wait for next Bastille Day!

- Gabi Peles, 7Y

Bonjour!

On the 14th of June, all students at our school studying French from Years 7–12 had the opportunity to enjoy delicious traditional French delicacies in celebration of Bastille Day.

Although Bastille Day is officially celebrated on the 14th of July, we held our festivities early since that date falls during the school holidays. We indulged in authentic hot chocolate made from scratch by the lovely Angela Davids, paired with traditional fluffy and generously sized croissants purchased from Taste Baguette. To receive our treats, we were required to ask politely in French, making the experience both fun and educational. After collecting our delicious snacks, we gathered in the staff common room, where we enjoyed them to the soothing sounds of atmospheric French jazz music. As part of the celebration, we also learned about the historical significance of Bastille Day, how it's celebrated across France, and even learnt the French national anthem.

Merci et à bientôt!
