Executive Report
RUOK Assembly and Student Updates
Last Thursday, we had an excellent RUOK assembly, led by our wonderful Year 12 leaders. Their leadership and the engagement of all students highlighted the importance of mental health and checking in on each other, fostering a strong sense of community and care at our school.
Our Year 11 students are currently completing their yearly examinations, and I am pleased to report that they are doing exceptionally well. Their commitment to their studies is evident, and we look forward to seeing their results.
Meanwhile, our Year 10 Subject Selection Interviews are progressing smoothly. Year 10 students are having excellent discussions with senior staff regarding their HSC choices for Year 11 and 12, providing valuable guidance as they prepare for their senior years. Interestingly, early data shows that 84% of our students are indicating a desire to pursue university studies after the HSC, reflecting their aspirations and the support provided by our school community.
In the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) and Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) faculties, our HSC major works are currently in the process of being marked. A big thank you to both the students and their teachers for the high calibre of work produced this year. Additionally, our Music HSC examinations were held on Friday, and we commend those students and their teachers for their excellent preparation and performance.
P&C thank you
Staff were surprised as they entered the hall for our recent Twilight with P&C parents handing them gift cards from Shuk with a personal message as a thank you for their care and professionalism in their role at Rose Bay Secondary College. Our staff appreciate the recognition of their work and the College says thank you parents for your thoughtfulness.
Year 12 Visual Arts Body of Work
The Year 12 Visual Arts Body of Work Exhibition was a huge success =) Thanks Deb Cave for being the photographer for the night!
It was a packed Common room with so many happy Year 12 Art students showing off their creativity to their family and friends. Thank you to the staff who attended too!
Artworks will now be submitted for NESA marking. A huge congrats to the CAPA Visual Arts staff for all your support and expertise to get all 45 students to the finish line by the due date! Phew!
Year 11 Geography excursion
Year 11 Geography excursion to Rumbalara Reserve on the 28th August
Our recent excursion to Rumbalara Reserve provided an invaluable hands on experience for our students to learn about Earth’s natural systems, with a special focus on the role of bushfires and climate change in shaping local environments.
At the Reserve, students explored the unique landscapes, investigating the impacts of bushfires on vegetation and the broader ecosystem. Through fieldwork, they used geographical tools such as anemometers, light meters, and soil testing kits to measure abiotic factors and understand how natural cycles, such as the carbon and nutrient cycles, are influenced by fire. This practical engagement helped students gain insights into how energy flows through ecosystems and how bushfires, while devastating, also play a critical role in ecological renewal.
Additionally, students were encouraged to think about the long-term implications of climate change. Discussions centred on how increasing temperatures and changing rainfall patterns are intensifying the frequency and severity of bushfires.
The Reserve’s management strategies were also explored, particularly how they are responding to the increased fire risk through controlled burns and vegetation management. Students learned how these approaches aim to balance ecological health with human safety in an era of increasing climate unpredictability.
The Rumbalara excursion was a powerful opportunity for students to not only engage with the natural environment but also to think critically about their role in fostering sustainability and resilience in the face of climate change.

Yr 8 Gala Day Results
MIXED NETBALL
All netball teams did a great job, we all had lots of fun and showed great team spirit.
Team 1 was undefeated - top of the table won the grand final - 1st place in the comp.
Team 2 won the majority of their games and made the semi-final - 3rd place in the comp.
Term 3 - the mixed team won half their games. Showed lots of improvement throughout the day.
Thank you to the Yr 10 Coaches – Isla, Isadora, Kiani
Gala day was a super fun experience, although we had to wake up early, it was definitely worth it. There were many options so many people got an opportunity to play a sport on this day, our team played netball although there was also oz tag and soccer. We found this day to be a great time and enjoyable by meeting new people but also having a fun time as a group. Thanks to our coach Isla we managed to compete in the semi-finals and secure our place as third. We would also like to say thank you to Mrs Flack for organizing such a fun event and we would definitely recommend this day for many people as this was such a great experience.
By: Annie, Paige and Neve
BOYS SOCCER
The 3 teams played well through the day. As there were no finals, the boys played with excitement and lots of enthusiasm in games against Inner Sydney HS, South Sydney HS, Alex Park CS and Matraville Sports HS.
A special mention to our fabulous student coaches – Aiden, Ali, Tjara, Darcy and Jan.
GIRLS OZ TAG
Our two Year 8 girls Oz-Tag teams proved themselves well up to the challenge of the Gala day with both experienced and new players having a great day. With their two Year 10 coaches (Abi and Sofia) both teams quickly got a hold of the rules and the other team's tags. While the day wasn't about winning and more about fun, our students did plenty of both, happily ending the day in a friendly match between each other. A great day and great fun for everyone involved.
A big thank you to all the Teachers – Mrs Flack, Ms Matthews and Mr Brown. A massive thank you to Mr Flack for organising the whole day.
Kids Giving Back: Congratulations

BOOK REVIEW
(Please see Ms T, if you would like to submit a book review)
TODAY_ ‘Romantasies’ By Bryanna Cappadona
So you’re considering jumping down the rabbit hole that is author Sarah J. Maas’ sprawling catalogue of romantasy books. Perhaps BookTok or your reading buddies put Maas’ three series — “Throne of Glass,” “A Court of Thorns and Roses” and “Crescent City”— on your radar, and her newest book, “House of Flame and Shadow,” has only heightened your interest.
You want to join in on the fun. But where do you begin? And what order should you be reading?
If you’re overwhelmed — 16 books might do that — fret not. We’ll help you get started.
More on Sarah J. Maas’ romantasies ·
Sarah J. Maas is BookTok’s reigning romantasy queen. All rise ·
Inside ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ and the sprawling romantasy universe that has TikTok obsessed ·
What Sarah J. Maas books to read first
There are two key things to note when getting started:
1. It doesn’t matter if you read the “Throne of Glass” books or the “ACOTAR” books first.
2. Read the “ACOTAR” books before you pick up the “Crescent City” books.
If you’re debating whether to start with “Throne of Glass” or “ACOTAR,” it depends on your preference: “ACOTAR” is romance forward — if you lean toward that genre, start there. “Throne of Glass” is big on the epic fantasy elements — you lean toward that, start there.
Come into the library and talk about books…
If you have not really got into reading it is definitely because you have not found the right book.
Love the Library…we will set you freeee by finding a book that you can emerse yourself in. A lovely way to combat stress or just a great way to leave ‘screens’ for a time.

Be Creative

An important part of being an effective student is being able to take notes.
Cornell Note Taking is one way of managing note taking. Please see me at the desk if you need some help.
We also help with Note Making –
Meaning of Note Making
Making notes is the activity of keeping records from many sources. It is more than just writing down what you hear or see. Note taking is a more cerebral activity than note taking because it requires you to choose, analyse; and summarise what you hear and read. Making notes is thus an active way of study because it requires you to think because you must make decisions about what you write.
Examples of Note Making:
Mind Mapping
Digital Gardening
Zettelkasten method
Interested? Come into the Library and ask for assistance.
Mindfulness
Another important aspect of schooling is mindfulness. Please join us Tuesday mornings (Senior study space) for some tips on meditation and managing stress.
The RBSC Book Club is set, our next meeting is Friday 13th, and then 27 th Friday,
Break 2. We invite everyone interested to join us. Keep an eye out for updates on our Book Club TEAMS page (Teams code- x250uos). Please see the library front desk for details.
Calling all Year 11 and 12 Advanced Maths Students…
The RBSC Integration Bee (Like a spelling Bee but regarding advanced maths).
Is happening! Week 10 of this term -please see the Daily Notices for details.
Library Volunteers
We will place a notice on TEAMs calling for volunteers. PLEASE LOOK TO YOUR TEAMS PAGE AND MAKE APPLICATION… OR COME IN AND SEE US AT THE FRONT DESK.
We are encouraging students who would like experience in ‘Display’ to join our growing number of volunteers. If you are interested in Window Display, Book Display, Wall display, then a career in Visual Merchandising, might be for you. TAFE has a Certificate in Visual Merchandising, ask at the library front desk; experience in the library can be a fabulous pathway; volunteering in the library is great to add to your resume. Please see the Library Front Desk if you would like to volunteer or if you need some help writing a Resume
# Come in and talk about your studies and possible study pathways, or simply find books that interest you; volunteer and get some great experience for your resume or just relax, read, study, colour, or play.
We serve our community of students and teachers in a vibrant interactive way. We encourage students and teachers to let us know how best we can serve. It’s a place for everyone.
