SASS Appreciation week
This week has marked celebrations of our school support staff and the wonderful work they do for the College. Often our support staff are the first point of contact for our community and I want to acknowledge the additional work that is cheerfully shouldered to ensure our teaching staff can focus on their classroom work.
The Public Service Association hosted a morning tea for all our support staff on Wednesday. We welcomed Stuart Little the General Secretary who spoke to our staff about their valued role and the supports available to them through the association.
Wednesday also saw our inaugural Countries and Culture day which was a great success, thanks to the vision and organisational acumen of our captains Sophie and Anh.
Wednesday was a day of high winds which brought a tree down on the corner of the oval. This necessitated closing the oval for break 2 to ensure that we could maintain a safe playground. Our contractors were amazing and had cleared the tree and debris by the end of the day.
Toilets
An assembly was held yesterday to remind students about the mobile phone expectations and to launch our toilets response. The aim is to provide safe spaces during class time that also monitor any antisocial behaviour so we can find out the student who are vandalising our facilities.
In summary:
All students will be given new student ID cards by Monday. These are coded to access the change rooms on Level 1 and 3 which have toilet facilities.
Students will need to have their student cards with them at school.
Class time: During class time students will ask the teacher for permission to leave to use the toilets and be given a green slip for being out of class. They will access the change room toilets by swiping their card. Year 12 will have special access to the Hall toilets. If a student has forgotten their card, they can access a toilet by presenting their green slip to the office.
It is expected that students will inform the office immediately if: any other students enters the change rooms on their card or there is damage or vandalism to the toilet. This response will allow us to quickly track back and find out who is responsible for this.
Breaks, before and shortly after school: Main toilets open for all students. Any damage to be reported to the teacher on duty.

High School intake areas in Sydney and Eastern Suburbs have changed to accommodate student population growth and to align enrolment areas with feeder primary schools where possible. The changes affect new enrolment applications received from Thursday, 29 August 2024 with consideration of the following:
- Current students at impacted high schools will not be required to change schools.
- Siblings of local students can still enrol at the same school together, even if the intake area adjustments make their home address out of area.
- Preferences submitted by Year 6 students for Year 7 enrolment in 2025 remain valid, however if students living in areas impacted by the changes would prefer to enrol at their new local school they may do so.
The intake areas can be found on the School Finder website schoolfinder.education.nsw.gov.au.

WIRED Performance: Year 7
On Friday 09/08 Year 7 watched a performance of Wired from Brainstorm Productions. Here are two recaps from students.
Jack :
I really like this performance based on two characters with different mental problems that they eventually overcome. The boy character was depressed after having a bad experience on social media where he got catfished, he then started vaping and cutting people off thinking it would make it better. The other character, a girl, was pushing herself too hard and was self medicating herself with caffeine so that she could stay awake and finish all of her chores and assignments. In the end they realise their problems and the boy starts going back to school and the girl breaks up with her boyfriend and stops drinking caffeine.
Angel:
The performance 'Wired' shared the stories of two people who were struggling with similar things. It shows how you can change your lifestyle by changing your behaviors. Most importantly, the performance can help young people understand and improve their actions after watching this performance.
Queen Scout Award
Congratulations to Ellie who was awarded her Queen Scout Award on Monday night by Ben Politzer Fairfax Scouts District Commissioner.
The Queen's Scout Award is the most prestigious award in the youth scouting movement, it is the most recognised youth award in the community and is considered the pinnacle of Scouting for Youth. The Queens Scout Award is earned by showing leadership in a range activities such as bush walking, climbing, abseiling, sailing, canoeing and heaps of other outdoor events. A significant challenge was planning and leading an unsupervised 4 day, 3 night hike undertaken with 4 other Youth Scouts, carrying all provisions for the journey.
Ellie will attend a formal ceremony later this year at Government House hosted by the NSW Governor General.
