Executive Report
As we conclude week 6 of term two, it is evident that our students are fully immersed in their academic pursuits, with assignments to complete and tests to prepare for. This period can be both challenging and rewarding for our young learners, and your support as parents is invaluable during this time
.Support Strategies for Parents:
- Establish a Structured Study Environment: Encourage your child to create a dedicated study space that is free from distractions. Ensure they have all the necessary materials and resources readily available. Setting a consistent study schedule can also help them manage their time effectively and reduce last-minute cramming.
- Encourage Healthy Habits: Remind your child of the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle during busy periods. Encourage regular exercise, adequate sleep, and healthy eating habits. Physical activity can help reduce stress and improve concentration, while a nutritious diet fuels their brain for optimal performance.
- Addressing Test Anxiety: Test anxiety is a common issue among students, but there are strategies to help them manage it effectively. Encourage your child to practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing or visualisation exercises before exams. Additionally, remind them to focus on their preparation rather than worrying about the outcome. Encouraging a positive mindset and emphasising that mistakes are part of the learning process can also help alleviate test anxiety.
Battle of the Bands
The last two weeks has also seen our talented musicians participate in the Battle of the Bands during break times on Wednesday. Their talents literally reverberated through the school as they performed songs and instrumental pieces across a range of genres and eras. The standard has been extremely high and is very much appreciated by the students and staff.
Upcoming Events:
- Year 7 Parent Teacher Night: We invite all Year 7 parents to join us for our upcoming Parent Teacher Night on June 18th, 2024, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to meet with your child's teachers and gain valuable insights into their progress and academic development. Bookings will open on June 11th, 2024, at 9:00 am.
- Year 8 and Year 10 Subject Selection Afternoon/Evening: We extend our gratitude to parents who have already registered their attendance for the Year 8 and Year 10 Subject Selection session on Tuesday 25th June. If you have not yet registered, please click on the link to secure your spot: Subject Selection Information Session
IEF News
IEF 3 Trip to Cockatoo Island by Aiden Hodgkinson On Friday 24th June, IEF 3 went on a trip to Cockatoo Island as part of the Community Access Programme. Located in the heart of Sydney Harbour, the island was originally a site to a convict gaol from 1839 to 1869 and a major shipbuilding and repair facility from 1857 to 1991. Additionally, between 1871 and 1911, the island hosted educational institutions for boys and girls. These included an industrial training school for girls, a reformatory for young women and a nautical school for boys.
We explored the island and had a look at where the prisoners were held. We experienced the small, tight space where prisoners were sent for solitary confinement. We looked at the buildings where ships were constructed and built and tasted some juicy burgers and chips from the café.

COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER
Dear Rose Bay Secondary College Community,
I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new Community Liaison Officer, Nadia Kaye. It is a privilege to be part of such a vibrant and inclusive school community.
You might be wondering, what exactly does a Community Liaison Officer do? Well, in essence, I am here to be a bridge between the school, parents, and the wider community, all with the ultimate
goal of enhancing the well-being, happiness, and educational outcomes of our students.
My roots in the Eastern Suburbs run deep, having attended both Dover Heights and Vaucluse High Schools, now known as Rose Bay Secondary College. Over the years, I've been actively
involved in various community endeavours, from playing, coaching and managing local sports clubs to working at local gyms and teaching at a nearby public school.
With a background as a trained PDHPE teacher and extensive experience as the head of the P&C at Vaucluse Public School, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of the importance of community engagement. In my previous role, I coordinated many events, facilitated communication between the school and the community, and supported parents and families through various challenges.
As an advocate for RBSC, I am here to support the staff, parents, and students alike. With a vested interest in the school, as my daughter is the third generation to attend, I approach this role not only with an abundance of energy and enthusiasm, but with kindness and compassion. I am deeply committed to ensuring that every member of our community feels valued and supported.
I really look forward to working closely with everyone to build upon
the wonderful community we have here at Rose Bay SecondaryCollege.
