Executive Report
This week we had our annual Sports Carnival. The weather treated us well and the students kept busy all day. There was a huge interest in the field events this year which was great to see. Thank you to Mr John Flack, the PDHP faculty and the amazing team for organising a great day for both students and staff and we congratulate all students who have made it to the Zone Athletics Carnival. More information to come.
The Year 7 Plaza Green space has had additional equipment installed. We now have two table tennis tables and a chess board table. Thank you kindly to the P&C and their donations making the Year 7 space engaging and enjoyable for our juniors.
A very big congratulations goes to Nia who has been offered a position in the prestigious Aboriginal Dance Company. The Aboriginal Dance Company is an audition-based dance ensemble for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students who excel in contemporary Indigenous dance. The Company is a partnership between the NSW Department of Education Arts Unit and Bangarra Dance Theatre.
Social Media platforms and our School Community Charter
We bring to your attention the School Community Charter. The College is aware that there are a number of parent WhatsApp groups to support communication about cohorts or classes that run outside of the P&C groups. We believe in promoting the highest standards of behaviour for our students and request parental support in modelling this. It would not meet the charter to make comments about individual students or criticisms of students, parents or groups of students. Even in the teenage years, parents are the most powerful influencers of behaviour. When our children see us showing kindness, tolerance and compassion to manage situations they will take these strategies up as a normal way of responding. We thank our community for supporting us in developing respectful and responsible citizens and friends.
IEF News
The IEF Social Inc has undergone a transformation! It's still happening during its regular slot - Break 2 on Tuesdays, but now it's relocated to A519. Leading the charge on social inclusion are Year 12 students Lola, Cal, Jed, Mila and Scarlett. Come on over and dive into the fun with Mario Kart, bingo, Lego, and the opportunity to forge new friendships.
Debating News
It has been another exciting season for our debaters as the Eastside Competition finished round 7, the final round, last Friday. The challenge this year has been fierce, as the topics have asked students to consider fascinating and important topics from the housing laws to the morality of hacking as a form of activism.
In round 7 Rose Bay was up against Cranbrook and the topic area was International Relations. Students wrangled with complex ideas such as the use of military drones, the practicality of military interventions, and the introduction of New Zealand into AUKUS. Our year 10s and 12s managed to come away with a win, but all the teams enjoyed debating these engaging topics.
It was a bittersweet day for our year 12s (pictured) who have completed a season of Eastside Debating for the last time in their high school debating careers. RBSC has been incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated group of strong debaters representing our school, and we are looking forward to seeing them take on the remaining debating competitions that we are involved in!
I would like to thank Ms. Archer, Mr. Godby, and all the parents and carers who came by to spectate the debates, it means a lot to students to see parents and teachers in the audience. Additionally, a big thank you to our year 7, 8, and 9 debaters who have provided incredible assistance in setting up and running our home debates. Many students have stayed back far longer than necessary to spectate, run debates, or guide parents and visitors around the school. It is fantastic to see such a strong level of commitment and excitement from this group of debaters. Additionally, a big thank you to Ms. Godby and Kim Kench who continue to work incredibly hard to ensure the debating program runs smoothly.

Careers News
This week students from Year 11 attended accredited training for Barista Skills at BlackMarketCoffeeTraining in Marrickville. This is an incredible opportunity and students will follow up the theory and training in the next couple of weeks with a days' Work Experience in the BlackMarket Cafe polishing their skills in a work setting.
Year 7 French Excursion
In Week 8 of Term 2, 7A and 7Y French classes went on a fun French excursion.
Students were transported by a chartered coach to Palace Cinemas at the Entertainment Quarter Moore Park, to watch the film, Zodi et Tehu, Freres du Desert which was in full French. Surprisingly, this didn’t seem to bother them because they were captivated by the story and on the edge of their seats the entire time. The film was about a boy who adopted a camel, later discovering it had the unique ability to run very quickly! On the advice of a veterinarian, he entered his camel into races across Arabia! Riding his camel, he won many competitions and accrued abundant riches, allowing him to help his poor tribal community. The film was sweet and everyone enjoyed it.
After the film, students were transported to Pyrmont, to have lunch at the posh French restaurant, ‘The Little Snail’ where they were led upstairs and seated with their friends.
Some students tried snails for the first time and were very glad they did because they were deliciously garlicky and this very much impressed them. Other entrees included fried calamari rings and a green salad.
Once entrees were finished, the waiters brought over the main meals which included roast chicken in red wine, fillets of baked salmon on a bed of creamy rice, and vegetarian pasta. They were all beautifully presented and enjoyed by everyone.
Following the mains were the desserts which included chocolate mousse, creme caramel and French vanilla ice cream.
The excursion was great fun and I’m sure everyone would love to go again!
