Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
From the Principal's desk
We welcomed our students back on the last balmy days of Autumn. I want to commend the majority of students who arrived in fully school uniform ready to learn.Returning to school last week evoked mixed emotions. On Tuesday we held a digital assembly to remember the victims of Bondi Junction in a one minute silence. As part of that assembly we also let students know about the supports available. We encourage all parents and carers to contact their Year advisor or the Head Teachers Wellbeing if there are ongoing concerns about the impact of these events on their child. I include a communication with suggested supports for parents.
Writers Showcase
At the start of term I was informed that May Hagstrom has been included in the NESA's Young Writers Showcase publication. This showcases the exemplary work of outstanding students in English Extension. To be included is a high honor and we congratulate Maya on her success. The publication will be launched at Carriage works in the next few weeks.
Yarning Circle
We would like to acknowledge the untiring work of our P&C and Vice President Mr Paul Wilson who was onsite during the holidays overseeing and working on the establishment of our yarning circle near the IEF garden. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student leaders will be consulting with Paul as the project develops. This project was made possible by the Wollahra grant application successfully made by the P&C.
The College also recognised Anzac Day with a formal assembly on Thursday. Students respectfully listened to a range of speakers and their conduct was commented on by our Member for Vaucluse, Kellie Sloane.
Year 7 Fast Track is BACK!
Starting Week 2, Term 2 2024 at 8:00am-8:50am in B502
Fast Track Literacy and Numeracy classes are open to all students who wish to receive some extra help with literacy and numeracy skills and content. Fast Track is a foundation class that is highly structured and aligns with the current content being taught in Year 7 English and Maths classes. It is highly structured and aims to build the foundations of the skills and content being taught in classes currently. The Literacy class and Numeracy class will run at the same time. If you would prefer your child have both literacy and numeracy support then they can alternate between the classes every 2 weeks. Every 2 weeks equals a new learning cycle. This class is FREE and open to all Year 7 students.
Please email: tamarin.wood@det.nsw.edu.au if you would like your child to be enrolled in the program.
Duke of Edingburgh Award
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is returning to RBSC. This year, we are partnering with Youth Advance who will work with our students to complete The Duke of Edinburgh Award. Please see attached flyer.
Youth Advance will be having an information seminar about The Duke of Edinburgh Award on 9th of May 2024 in the hall.
All Year 9 students will attend at 10:50am and any other interested students from Years 10,11, and 12 are advised to arrive promptly at first break (11:00am).
Careers News
Rose Bay Secondary College is running our annual Careers Information Day for students in Years 10, 11 and 12 on Thursday 30th May.
This will be an opportunity for students to explore a range of post school options including universities, private training providers, employment and traineeships and apprenticeships as well community organisations. Ex students will also be in attendance to share their ‘post RBSC story’ with advice on school, study and career development.
The timing for this fits neatly with the HUGE Careers Expo at Randwick Racecourse which runs from Thursday 30th May until Saturday 1st June.
I strongly encourage parents and students to visit the big careers event at Randwick – to answer post school careers and study questions as well as to explore the wide range of opportunities available for young people.
