From the Senior Executive
We're very pleased to announce the successful completion of the NAPLAN Year 7 and 9 tests. A total of 1423 tests were taken, and we commend all our students for their hard work and dedication in completing the tests. We extend our sincere appreciation to our staff members, Jess Gray, Eliza Matthews and Maddie Jones for their diligent efforts in organising and administering the tests so professionally.
Currently, our Year 8 students are embarking on an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing their 'Learning Ready' skills. Over the next four weeks, we will be conducting a trial program focused on developing various aspects of readiness for formal education. 'Learning Ready' encompasses a range of skills, including physical, motor, socio-emotional, behavioural, linguistic, and cognitive abilities, all of which play crucial roles in ensuring students are adequately prepared to engage with their educational journey.
During roll call sessions, Year 8 students will be actively participating in activities and exercises designed to cultivate these essential skills. Through this trial, we aim to equip our students with the tools and capabilities necessary to thrive academically and personally.
The P&C AGM was very well attended on Tuesday evening. This event saw our current office bearers thanked with kind words and gifts for the tireless effort that they have given to the school over the last year. We would also like to extend our thanks to our new office bearers.

IEF News
The IEF had a wonderful day at the whole school swimming carnival at Botany pools. The highlight was the IEF races in the 25 meter pool.
Cameron, Molly, and Jasper had a fantastic time at the Year 7 camp last week. They gathered at school at 7:30 am on Wednesday and returned at 3 pm on Friday. Over three days, they embraced new challenges, built friendships, collaborated, and discovered the best versions of themselves.

Ex RBSC Student Update
Greetings students and parents,
My name is Gabi Cohen, and I am a current student at the University of Sydney, studying Bachelor of Arts majoring in International Relations and Geography.
After graduating from Rose Bay Secondary College in 2022, I embarked on a gap year, travelling to twenty-six countries. During this time, I did several volunteering programs and participated in a couple of youth movements, one of which was 'MDA', an intensive paramedic program based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Throughout high school, I was deeply interested in humanitarian-based subjects, but I was especially captivated by geography. My passion for social sciences inspired an interest in politics and consequently, sparked a passion for public speaking and social activism.
On the 17th of March 2024, I embarked on a three-day political training seminar at the Australian Parliament House in Canberra. Over the three days, I was fortunate to meet thirty of Australia's most influential and powerful politicians, inclusive of the honourable Anthony Albanese (current Prime Minister). I was accompanied by Australia’s future leaders, representing the Australasian Union of Jewish Students. Every participant had a unique area of expertise and as a group, we raised our concerns to the government officials, actively suggesting ways to improve public policies, human rights, cost of living pressure, promote environmental sustainability, as well as discussing several other areas of contemporary relevance.
As a devoted student who advocates for the importance of a balanced lifestyle, I advise all high-school students to maintain a good study routine while socialising and engaging in activities that benefit them physically and mentally. All individuals have a passion, whether you know what yours is or not - once you find something that interests you, never stop researching and exploring the subject - knowledge is the greatest power. When opportunities arise, I advise you as active learners to always raise your hand, initiation is how we grow as individuals.
Students, you are never too young to embark on activities that build your leadership, communication and teamwork skills. If ever in doubt, ask your teachers how you can get involved in extra-curricular activities and how to take initiative with your studies. I encourage all students to view their teachers as examples of encouragement who can inspire.
Teachers are remarkable mentors.
Year 12 Art Gallery excursion
Year 12 Visual Arts had a lovely day at the Art Gallery of NSW on Wed 13th March. They listened to successful 2023 student talks about their work in ArtExpress, viewed the exhibition (including RBSC’s Luca's film) and was inspired for their Upcoming Body Of Work. They also experienced the work of Louise Bourgeois and contemporary artists at the new gallery.
Year 12 Q&A
On Monday night, six year 12 students, accompanied by their Year Adviser Bella White and SRC Coordinator Georgia Callinan, attended a live taping of the ABC program Q & A in Ultimo. Xavier, Scarlett, Holly, Raven, Edward and Sophie were wonderful representatives of the College, and enjoyed hearing a panel of experts discuss the increasing power of Big Tech companies, the impact of social media on young people, the condition of Australia's economy, and other relevant sociopolitical issues nationally and globally.

The swimming carnival was a rousing success! The student turn-out rate and engagement in both the competitive and novelty races was amazing to see. A huge round of applause to all the swimmers, teachers, student volunteers, and supporters who made this carnival an unforgettable experience. Boys Under 16 Bill Turner.
In a tightly contested Round 1 match against Emmanuel College, the boys' Bill Turner team from Rose Bay emerged victorious with a hard-earned 1-0 win. Following extensive trials, a squad of 16 talented players was chosen from years 7, 8, 9, and 10 to represent the team. They faced a formidable Emmanuel College side, renowned for their solid defense, which initially proved difficult for the Rose Bay team to break down.
Patrick , continuing the legacy of his sporting family, scored a spectacular goal into the top corner, igniting the Waverley crowd with excitement.
As the match progressed, Rose Bay gained the upper hand, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite their dominance, they were unable to convert more chances before halftime. The second half mirrored the first, with Rose Bay displaying increased offensive efforts but failing to secure additional goals to clinch the victory convincingly.
Looking ahead, the boys will advance to Round 2, drawing confidence and valuable experience from this victory. With more training and refinement of their skills, they are optimistic about progressing further in the competition.
Best on the day were Inbar, Patrick and Aaron.
Year 11 Geography
On the 11th March Year 11 Geography, students delved into the intricate ecosystem of the Minnamurra River and its surrounding environment, exploring its biophysical components in detail. Through fieldwork and classroom study, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the complex interactions between abiotic and biotic factors that shape this unique ecosystem. They analyzed the river's hydrology, studying its flow patterns, water quality, and sediment transport processes. They also investigated the diverse flora and fauna of the area. Additionally, students explored the impacts of human activities on the Minnamurra ecosystem, considering issues such as pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change, and evaluated strategies for sustainable management and conservation. Through their study of the Minnamurra ecosystem, Year 11 Geography students develop critical thinking skills and a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of natural systems and human societies.
