Newsletter Term 1 Week 6
From the Senior Executive
On International Women's Day we acknowledge and celebrate the role of women in our communities, homes and workplaces. This years theme is Inspire Inclusion. We personally reflect today on the many ways the College empowers, informs and fosters our future leaders in building an inclusive, safe and imaginative world.
This week saw our swimming carnival which was held in balmy weather. We also hosted our Parent and Teacher evening for our Year 12 parents. This is always a bitter-sweet occasion, being the last of these meetings for this cohort. It was a time to focus on what our students can do to maximise their HSC success but also to voice our appreciation of the shared care of our wonderful Year 12's.
NAPLAN
Ms Gray and her team have been working hard to ensure our students are confident and ready for NAPLAN testing next week. We wish to commend our Year 7 and 9 students who engaged well with the practice tests. This is a valuable process as it builds expertise in test protocols in our students as well as ensuring we can manage the tech demands of the sheer number of students sitting this test. We encourage all our students to give it their best as the NAPLAN results give us valuable information on our students progress and areas the College can focus on to support their learning.
Mobile Phones
Our students were outstanding in following our expectations for the mobile phone ban that commenced in Term 4, 2023. The College requests that parents remind their students to have their phones off and away and in their bags for the whole school day. Rose Bay Secondary College has a gate to gate policy which means no phones are out whilst on school grounds. Breach of these expectations will lead to immediate confiscation of the phone and a parent pick up of the device. We have seen positive gains as a result of this ban with a higher level of focus and and engagement in class and a more connected and social environment in breaks.
Uniform
As part of our roll making the College has started to log students out of uniform. A number of students are arriving at the College out of uniform and informing Ms Archer that their uniform is in their bag. Our expectation is that students arrive at the College in full uniform. Slides, Crocs and any open sandals/shoes are not acceptable footwear as they pose a safety hazard. If you have trouble sourcing uniform please speak to your child's Year Advisor. All communications are treated with full confidentiality.
IEF News
The IEF area is a catalyst for industry during break times, there's creativity, designing and engineering being activated. It's a joy to watch the Marble Run creations getting bigger, better and stronger.
