Newsletter Term 1 Week 5
From the Senior Executive
It's been another big week here at Rose Bay Secondary College. Firstly, last night we held our Welcome to Year 7 Afternoon for parents and carers to meet the teachers who are delivering lessons to their children. Ms Archer spoke of how Year 7 parents and carers are on the journey of discovering high school life along with their children. Parents and carers then had the opportunity to graze the platters kindly donated by the P&C and speak to the dedicated educators at our school.
This was followed by our Open Night where prospective students and their parents and carers are able to see the facilities and meet some of the teachers at our school. We had over 180 parents, carers and children at the event. A big thank you to all the SRC and student School Tour Guides for escorting the groups throughout the school and answering questions. A very special thanks goes to Ms Alonzo for her tireless efforts in making the night such a success. We are very proud of our school and all the opportunities it provides to our current and future students.
We are currently organising next Tuesday's Year 12 Parent Teacher Evening. Please make sure you keep an eye out for an email detailing how you can book your meeting with your child's teacher. Please discuss with your child what information they want to know from their teachers as they progress through their final year of high school. Your child's Year 12 teachers are highly dedicated educators with high expectations that every student can achieve their personal best in their studies in preparation for their pathways post-school.
As a side note, Ms Archer has been visiting classrooms and was impressed on Monday with the enthusiasm, knowledge and beautiful aromas from Mr Lloyd's Year 7 TAS 9 class who were finishing off their lettuce cups! Delicious
IEF News
Every Monday the IEF students access the mainstream Food Technology kitchens and learn to cook for independence and fun. Last week the IEF students cooked rice and added soy sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise. They all enjoyed making this easy yet delicious snack.

Year 11 English studies
Enjoy supporting students in their career development? Have you ever interviewed anyone before and provided effective feedback to improve? Then the Year 11 English Studies class needs you!
The Year 11 English Studies class have a Job Interview for their Term 1 Assessment. We’re looking for a passionate local community member to come in to the school and facilitate mock-interviews for these young people, replicating some of the questions and conditions that they will face in the real world.
It would run for approximately 2 hours and would require some paperwork for legal Working with Children compliance. If this is something you would be interested in, please don’t hesitate to contact peter.wallis17@education.nsw.gov.au or Lachlan.McEvoy4@det.nsw.edu.au for further information.
RBSC Year 7 Social
Come along and meet other Year 7 parents, P&C members, and teachers. Note that this is an adults-only event as Rose Bay Secondary College does not endorse activities where students and alcohol are both present.
$20 entry (includes light refreshments plus 1 wine, beer or soft drink on arrival). A full bistro and bar also available separately.

Behaviour in Outdoor Spaces at RBSC
On Thursday, we took the opportunity to remind students about Positive Behaviour for Learning and acceptable behaviours in outdoor spaces including the playground and canteen. Staff at Rose Bay Secondary College have high expectations of students both in and outside of the classroom. Ms Lawson (HT History/Languages) clearly stated what positive behaviour looks like in these spaces and gave details about behaviours that we don't expect to see in these locations. The overall message was about following instructions, making positive, kind choices and taking responsibility for actions, especially when approached by a member of staff. Finally, rubbish and care for the school environment were discussed. After this assembly, staff and students saw a marked improvement across all outdoor areas including the canteen and playground. It was easy to see the message was received by students as, visibly, outdoor areas looked tidier, cleaner and calm. We will continue to expect excellence from our students and know they can continue to rise to these expectations.
