Grease the Musical!
It is with immense joy and pride that we share the resounding success of our school's production of "Grease - The Musical." This theatrical extravaganza captivated audiences over three unforgettable nights, with an additional matinee performance exclusively for our local primary schools. The air was filled with excitement as our talented students took centre stage, bringing the iconic characters of Rydell High School to life.
The magic of "Grease" unfolded through exceptional performances by our students, whose dedication and passion for the arts shone brightly on stage. From the electrifying dance numbers to the soulful renditions of timeless songs, our young performers exhibited a level of talent and commitment that left audiences in awe. The energy, enthusiasm, and sheer talent displayed by our students truly made "Grease" a memorable experience for everyone who attended.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering dedication of our exceptional teachers, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to guide and nurture our budding actors, singers, and dancers. Directors/Choreographers Kelly Vine, Maria Alonzo and Olivia Little and the Production Team consisting of Scott Wright, Bella White and Janaki Kremmer’s commitment to excellence and tireless efforts ensured that every aspect of the production, from choreography to set design, was executed with precision and flair. The commitment of our school community was evident throughout this year-long preparation, and it culminated in a spectacular showcase of talent.
Year 6 Orientation Day
We are delighted to share the tremendous success of our recent Year 6 Orientation Day, a special event designed to warmly welcome the incoming Year 7 students who will be joining us in 2024. It was a day filled with excitement, smiles, and the promise of new beginnings.

IEF News
On Wednesday, IEFM caught the bus to Bondi Junction and visited Kmart. The class understood that they had experienced many wonderful opportunities throughout the year at Rose Bay Secondary College and wanted to give back to some students who were less fortunate than themselves. As a class they selected a gift that would be long lasting and fun and put it under the Wishing Tree which is a Salvation Army appeal. As the holiday season fast approaches it is a good opportunity to acknowledge that what goes out, comes back around.
Grease the Musical!
From the iconic Greaser’s hangout the Burger Palace to the Pink Ladies’ pyjama party, the production of the multi-award winning musical Grease by the students at Rose Bay Secondary College, was nothing short of breath-taking. Each song ended with an enthusiastic applause from the audience, that was just short of a riot. With the hall at full capacity on the final night, the enthusiasm of the students was matched by the parents and friends who can came to see the show.
It was just amazing—took me back to my own youth…it's so good that the kids are enjoying what is clearly good clean fun said one parent.
Whilst the on stage peformance was clearly a winner, what went on behind the scenes to make Grease 2023 a success was also nothing short of a miracle. Creative director and head teacher of Drama at RBSC, Kelly Vine, had this to say about her vision for the show:
The overall vision for Grease was to have a diverse cast who embodied the characters. We were looking for students who were quirky, cool and creative. The set design went through a number of iterations before we settled on creating a simple stage design with a few key elements like the car and the bleachers to set the scene. We knew that the lighting design and the talent of the students would create the cherry on top. It was always our intention to showcase the talents of all students by having a strong cast who were able to play a range of characters. This was to ensure that we were able to show the mix of personalities that you find in a 1950's high school. And it worked.
The costumes, nothing short of inspirational, were a nostalgic reminder of a bygone era. While most of the actors and backstage crew would not have heard of Olivia Newton John or John Travolta who made up the original cast, their enthusiasm and dedication was unbound - and it showed in the perfect props and costumes for the show.
The logistics of producing a large-scale musical has many moving parts from Props, sound, lighting, costumes, marketing, front of house, class covers, photography and program designs just to name a few. The car was acquired after chasing up various schools until it was found at Mater Maria College Warriewood where it was transported to RBSC says Maria Alonzo, director and choreographer, for the show.
The Pink Lady costumes and jeans and spiffy leather jackets on the boys, completed the 1950s era look. Watching these students learn about Grease-era hair, makeup and music while developing their confidence and performance skills was something I'll never forget! They looked brilliant says Bella White, who did the costumes for the show.
Well done, Rose Bay Secondary College! You are the epitome of all that is wonderful in public education.
