Newsletter Term 4 Week 6
From the Senior Executive
Assessment
It's a busy time for students with assessments taking place in term 4. As we approach this crucial phase, students are encouraged to diligently review their coursework, seek clarification from teachers, and utilise available resources for support. The assessments aim to gauge individual progress, offering valuable insights into strengths and areas for improvement. Parents and guardians are encouraged to engage in open communication with teachers, ensuring a collaborative approach to student success. Let's embrace this opportunity for growth, support one another, and strive for excellence as we navigate the upcoming assessment period together.
Proudly representing the College
The College has received great feedback and praise from members of the community this week about how respectful, polite, and mature they have been whilst on excursions across Sydney. A group of fantastic Yr. 10s attended the Secure Code Warrior Champions in Chippendale where they completed with students from other schools to ‘crack the code’. Also our Musical Cast and Crew, Dance Ensemble, Dance and Drama Elective classes had the privilege to see Wicked the musical on Wednesday. With several schools in attendance, it was amazing to receive multiple emails and phone calls from members of the community about how respectful and polite our student were, displaying theatre etiquette and the values of RBSC.
IEF News
On Monday Stephan Rochecouste came to Rose Bay Secondary College with his Wheelchair Sports Roadshow van. Stephan was born with spina bifida and has been involved with Wheelchair Sports NSW/ACT for as long as he can remember. Stephan played wheelchair tennis from the years of 2006-2017 before transitioning into wheelchair rugby league.
Being able to deliver such a fantastic road safety and disability awareness program right across NSW and the ACT is something that Stephan finds truly rewarding as it not only gives him the platform to teach new things to young people, but also the opportunity to close the gap of understanding when it comes to knowing disability as a whole and how young people can show empathy and inclusive behaviours for all. Stephan brought with him 10 red and blue sports wheelchairs, basketball hoops and balls and encouraged some great games of wheelchair basketball. The IEF shared the day with the PASS classes
The key values are.
Dignity - We believe everyone has great value.
Tenacity - We fight fiercely for inclusion.
Resilience - We get up and go every day.
Camaraderie - We are in it together.
The students and teachers enjoyed the experience and welcomed the new perspective.
A huge thank you to Nicki Taitz the coordinator of the Maccabi, NSW, All Abilities for organising and funding this amazing opportunity.
Year 7 Class Challenge
Over the last 4 weeks, Year 7 have been participating in a PB4L Class Challenge. The students have worked collaboratively to show that they are respectful, responsible learners. The challenge was developed to foster teamwork and a positive learning environment for all as well as to acknowledge and reward the positive behaviour we are seeing amongst our year 7 cohort. Miss Bowd, Mr Godby and I are so proud of how well the Year 7 classes have worked together throughout this challenge. The winning class each week was rewarded with a bronze award and a Zooper Dooper. On Friday the 16th November a celebratory BBQ was held for the overall winning class and the class who was most improved. I would like to thank all Year 7 students and the Year 7 teachers for working together with Mr Godby, Miss Bowd and myself to make this challenge successful and fun.

Library News
This week we formally said Goodbye to the Class of 2023 with them returning any outstanding school text or library books. It was great to see their smiling faces, many relieved exams are finally over and many making exciting plans for their future studies or traineeships. The library team wishes them all the very best.
As the end of year draws near, the Bob Bellear Memorial Library is following up on any outstanding school text or library books from the rest of the school community. It would be appreciated if parents/carers could follow up with students to check if there are any books lying around (or in school bags!) that could be returned. Students can always pop by the Library Help Desk to double check what they may have outstanding.
Homework Club reminder for Mondays and Wednesdays 3-5pm each week in the library. We get great feedback from the students, especially regarding the biscuits! All ages welcome. Tutors are available to help students with any queries.
All Years - Bus behaviour
I have had concerns raised with me by members of the public about the disrespectful behaviour of a number of students who are catching the bus from the Shuk bus stop.
The College policy is that students should be catching the buses from school, where there is full supervision and processes to ensure students can safely catch their buses home.
The College also expects all our students to show exemplary respect and responsibility in the community. If any student is behaving disrespectfully and can be identified as a member of the College then disciplinary action can be taken.
I am aware the majority of our students behave with great pride and respect in the community, and I am disappointed that the actions of a few are tarnishing the reputation of the majority of our students.
