Positive Partnerships for Learning
The positive partnership between families and Rose Bay Secondary College underpins the high expectations and inclusive culture expected by our school community. We look forward to working together to provide the best possible outcomes for all students. In the same way as we treat nurses, doctors, front line workers, retail staff with dignity and respect, teachers and support staff also deserve the same behaviour. The Department of Education expects that all parents follow the guidelines and all communication is presented in a positive and constructive manner. The Department has a legal obligation to ensure our school is a safe place for both staff and students. This includes taking measures to ensure that the communication our staff receive is respectful and does not negatively impact on their wellbeing. We expect that communication at all times is:
- Polite and respectful.
- Focusing on relevant facts and possible solutions.
- Providing our staff with the information that is needed to resolve the issue or current concern.
Thank you for following these simple guidelines to ensure a positive partnership between families and school.
From the Senior Executive
Dear Students and Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful and restful school holiday, and we extend a warm welcome back to Rose Bay Secondary College.
1. A Term of Respectful Learning
At Rose Bay Secondary College we are dedicated to fostering an environment of respect and responsibility where every student can thrive. We encourage all students to be mindful of their words and actions, treating each other and their teachers with respect. Let's make this term one of collaborative learning, where everyone feels valued and supported in their educational journey.
2. Reminder: No Mobile Phone Policy
As a gentle reminder, we uphold a no mobile phone policy during learning time. We have witnessed how this policy helps create a focused and conducive learning environment. Starting from Term 4, we will extend this policy into break times, aligning with the guidelines set by the Department of Education and Training (DET). We appreciate your cooperation and support in ensuring that students leave their mobile phones at home or safely stored in their lockers during learning time.
3. Good Luck to Competitors at the Zone Athletics Carnival (21/7)
We want to extend our best wishes to all the athletes representing our school at the Zone Athletics Carnival on the 21st of July. Go out there, give it your all, and remember that you are already winners in our eyes.
As we start this term with enthusiasm and determination, let's work together to create a supportive and inspiring learning community. We encourage open communication between students, parents, and teachers to ensure a successful and enjoyable term for all.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our staff. Let's make this term an exceptional one filled with growth, learning, and success.
4. Subject Fees
A friendly reminder to please pay any outstanding course and subject fees. These fees are used to buy resources and materials necessary for the completion of the subjects that are charging them. If families are able to make the voluntary school contributions this would also be appreciated. These contributions allow RBSC to provide and maintain the wonderful facilities that we have.
5. Subject selection
Thank you to all students who have completed their elective choices for Year 11 2024.
This is a reminder to those students who have yet to submit their elective choices. If you are unsure, please speak to your teacher, Year Advisor or make an appointment with Ms Lockton for advice. The Subject Selection details have been sent to you via your school email account.
Subject Selection closes Friday Week 2.
Mobile phone ban in high schools (term 4)
The Student Digital Devices and Online Services Policy is being extended to include a ban on mobile phones in our high schools from Term 4 this year, actioning a key commitment from the incoming government.
Some important aspects of the ban:
- It will apply during lunch and recess, as well as in class.
- Students will still be able to carry their phones while travelling to and from school.
- School staff can allow students to use their mobile phones in specific circumstances, such as for an educational purpose, their wellbeing or to support students with specific needs.
- Individual requests to exempt a student from the ban from parents, carers, or students, should be assessed, with alternative communication options considered.
- RBSC will be updating our own policy this term and will communicate how it will work soon
IEF News
The IEF has had an incredible experience with the fantastic music classes led by Jack on behalf of Josh Oshlack's The Rhythm Village. Josh is dedicated to the goal of The Rhythm Village, which is to provide focused, engaging, and enjoyable music sessions for everyone in our community. Whether it's for special needs schools, community organizations, or large corporates, the positive benefits of music are truly remarkable.
For the final term 3 class, we decided to relocate the drums and percussion instruments to the Yarning Circle, creating a perfect environment to play the drums and percussion instruments and immerse ourselves in the rhythm.
We initially believed that we had been fortunate enough to receive one term of music through the Westfield Local Hero award. However, to our surprise and immense gratitude, Josh has generously offered the IEF music classes for Term 3 as well. We are truly grateful for his kindness and the opportunity to continue working with Jack and The Rhythm Village.
