Positive Partnerships for Learning
The positive partnership between families and Rose Bay Secondary College underpins the high expectations and inclusive culture expected by our school community. We look forward to working together to provide the best possible outcomes for all students. In the same way as we treat nurses, doctors, front line workers, retail staff with dignity and respect, teachers and support staff also deserve the same behaviour. The Department of Education expects that all parents follow the guidelines and all communication is presented in a positive and constructive manner. The Department has a legal obligation to ensure our school is a safe place for both staff and students. This includes taking measures to ensure that the communication our staff receive is respectful and does not negatively impact on their wellbeing. We expect that communication at all times is:
- Polite and respectful.
- Focusing on relevant facts and possible solutions.
- Providing our staff with the information that is needed to resolve the issue or current concern.
Thank you for following these simple guidelines to ensure a positive partnership between families and school.
From the Senior Executive
From the Senior Executive
As we conclude the last week of Term, I would like to congratulate every member of our school community on a highly successful Semester at Rose Bay Secondary College. We have achieved so much and there have been many highlights across the school. Accolades go to every student for their efforts to achieve their personal best throughout the term. This was reflected in all of the outstanding student reports that the Senior Executive have read over the last few weeks. Our thanks go to all teachers who have put so much time and effort into ensuring the assessments and comments on each report are well informed and succinct. Special thanks also go to our parent community for their incredible support of the school and of course to our staff for working hard on so many levels to make sure our students have the best curricular and co-curricular opportunities.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish every family a safe and happy holiday break. We look forward to seeing all of our brilliant students on Tuesday 18 July, 2023 for Day 1 of Term 3.
College Celebrations
We would like to congratulate Rob Cotterell on his permanent appointment as Rose Bay Secondary College’s Technical Support Officer! We are so lucky to have Rob as a permanent employee. The Senior Executive have been successful in their application for additional Wellbeing Funding so that a Jewish Liaison Officer can be brought into the School. This role will be advertised early next Term so if you know of someone who would be able to support Jewish students at RBSC please encourage them to apply.
Staffing Changes
We wish to congratulate Kimberley Crow and Molly McFayden on their new roles and speak for both staff and students when we express our best wishes. They will both be missed by the whole School community. Molly was successful in her application for a role in a corporate Department of Education role while Kimberley was successful in her application to become an English Teacher at Picnic Point High School which is much closer to her home.
We wish both Teachers all the best in their future endeavours.
Academic Achievement and Report Cards
On Tuesday we were able to celebrate the achievements of Year 10, 11 and 12 students at their Year Level Assemblies. It was wonderful to see these cohorts work to support each other and reflect on the past Term’s accomplishments. It was also a time where we were able to showcase the musical t

Winter at RBSC
The winter term always has its challenges with seasonal illnesses and major assessments due throughout Term 2 and 3. Please ensure that all absences for sickness are reported to the office. Please follow the processes in place for illness/misadventure as required:

As we move into the holidays, we would ask that we all support our students to demonstrate our core values of being respectful and responsible in all aspects of their engagement in the community. We wish you all a safe and rejuvenating holiday break.
Mobile Phones and Wellbeing
In Term 4, there will be zero tolerance for mobile phones at School as this aligns with the NSW Government ban of such devices for students at School. RBSC will not be engaging with a phone pouch or phone locker system. We are going to be working with students to support them in learning self-control throughout Term 3 of this year. Mobile phones cannot be used in classes at Rose Bay Secondary College and we understand that some students have some level of addiction to their device. We are happy to be working with parents and guardians to support students during this time of transition. Further information regarding the implementation of this across the state can be found here.

IEF News
This Semester IEFH have been exploring our local community and engaging in what it means to be a positive community member. Our local SSP school is Wairoa and we had the opportunity to be online pen pals. The students exchanged ideas and interesting facts by email and worked toward an in person meet up.
On Friday, IEF H met up with students from Wairoa SSP. They played snakes and ladders, connect 4 and ball games in the park by Bondi Beach.
It was a great opportunity for students to build friendships with others who have diverse abilities and learn about their experiences, challenges and strengths.
A great morning was had by all!
Hardy Street Harvest Garden
We are thrilled to share the incredible progress made at the Hardy Street Harvest Garden, tended to by our IEF students. After an entire semester of hard work, the garden has blossomed into a thriving oasis of greenery and fresh produce.
One of the major highlights of our recent efforts was the delivery of five tonnes of golden gravel. The gravel has been laid on the pathways, not only enhancing the garden's aesthetic appeal but also effectively keeping the pesky weeds at bay. Our students showcased their unwavering commitment by tirelessly shoveling and pressing the gravel into the pathways.
Inside our greenhouse, seedlings were carefully nurtured in trays, they flourished and reached a point where they could be transplanted into the garden beds. The daily watering routine, complemented by the winter sun, has contributed to some remarkable crops, our garden now boasts a vibrant selection of broccoli, snow peas, corn, potatoes, herbs, carrots, and numerous other edible plants.
While the garden has undoubtedly been a valuable resource for our Design and Technology and Science classes, it's the transferable skills our students have gained that truly stand out. Many of our students began this journey without knowing how to use a shovel, yet through their hard work, they have become experts at the task. Beyond shoveling, they have honed skills in weeding, watering, forecasting garden needs, landscaping, and understanding different produce types and their nutritional value. These invaluable skills will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavors.

Library News
Bob Bellear Memorial Library has a fantastical collection of books within the "Fantasy" genre. Students can easily identify this genre by looking out for the green dragon sticker on the spine of the books or within the description area on the Oliver platform if they are borrowing an e-book.
The school is even lucky enough to have our very own in-house fantasy genre author! Mr Kent, our Economics and Business Studies teacher (pictured), is the author of "The Cauldrin Prophecies." If you are a fan of fantasy classics like "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis and the magical world of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, then this book is a must-read.
"The Cauldrin Prophecies" is a thrilling adventure that combines elements of fantasy, magic, and self-discovery. Mr. Kent's book promises an enchanting read for fans of fantasy literature, transporting readers to a world where prophecies, dragons, and hidden powers collide. Read on for a brief overview of this magical read.
In this captivating tale according to an ancient prophecy, a Cauldrin ruler from the House of Wizard would join forces with a Makor dragon to bring peace to the realms. However, not all Cauldrin agreed with this prophecy, foreseeing alternative futures.
Among the dissenting Cauldrin, some believed in the power of human lineage and weaponry. Disguised as a religious order, they concealed their magical gifts and integrated themselves into the three non-magical royal families as advisors, nannies, and teachers. Their plan was to wait until the time of prophecy to be fulfilled. And that time is now.
Enter Cedric, a former coach driver who finds himself in court, transformed into a knight with a crucial mission—to slay the darkest of dragons. However, Cedric faces numerous challenges. He has lost his memory, the princess has been kidnapped by a Cauldrin Wizard and a dragon, he has angered goblins and dragons alike, and the entire magical kingdom is against him. Can a coward find the courage to defeat a dragon, save the princess, and prevent mankind's annihilation by the evil Cauldrin Wizard Vain
and his sister Volant? Above all, can Cedric discover his inner self and unleash the magic within to become the king of kings? Borrow "The Cauldrin Prophecies" to find out what happens next!
