From the Senior Executive
Tis the season of reporting and many families will be receiving semester 1 reports over the next few weeks. We are very proud of our students’ achievement and the personal success and goals that are being achieved. In every report there is a learning story so ask your child about what they are proudest of and the favourite assessment or task they have completed.
Over the next week we will be holding our semester Year Group assemblies to promote success and celebrate student achievement.
Please note the subject selection afternoon for Year 8 and 11 this coming Tuesday so you can be informed about subject selection choice and processes.
Despite the sunshine there has been a cold bite in the air. Our uniform has a number of items designed to keep our students warm and we would request that you reinforce their uniform commitment as we move onto winter. Closed leather shoes are to be worn as other footwear such as UGH boots do not meet the requirements of uniform under health and safety. Contact your child’s year advisor if you need support in sourcing uniform items.
Year 7 Fortnightly Update
Year 7 have had an excellent few weeks at Rose Bay Secondary College. They have been working hard to finalise assessment tasks, examinations and have been engaging in their learning. It has been a pleasure observing and teaching Year 7 classes and seeing the ways in which the cohort are maturing as they find their place here at the College. A great resource for parents is our Assessment Planner page on our School website. Here you are able to see the Year 7 Assessment Planner per term, the notifications for examinations and assessment tasks and are able to access the illness/misadventure form if your child is too sick to complete a set task.

Year 9 Fortnightly Update
Year 9 students have had an excellent few weeks on Campus and I have made it a priority to attend some Year 9 elective classes over the last week. It has been spectacular to witness student engage with some subjects and content that is so new to them. There has been an increase in Assessment Tasks and examinations over the last few weeks so I wanted to share some reminders about help and support we offer here at the College. A great resource for parents is our Assessment Planner page on our School website. Here you are able to see the Year 9 Assessment Planner per term, the notifications for examinations and assessment tasks and are able to access the illness/misadventure form if your child is too sick to complete a set task.

SRC News
A message from the SRC from the past events which took place this week. Many of the SRC members are continually discussing initiatives to improve our school. Furthermore, for the past weeks there has been Year 12 competition in our schools gyms, where this term's futsal competition came to an end. We would like to congratulate all students who participated in this year's athletics and cross-country competitions. We would like to send our best wishes for all students who are yet to complete or have completed their exams for this term.
Kind regards, Juliana
IEF News
In 2018, Alex Chandler completed his studies in the IEF, which left him feeling a bit sad as he bid farewell to his friends and transitioned into post-school life. Since then, he has been collaborating with Christopher Williams in the distribution of the remarkable book series called Karey and Kareful. Both Christopher and the book's illustrator, Ann Victoria, have experienced periods of reliance on wheelchairs due to accidents and injuries at different points in their lives. However, they persevered and recovered and subsequently volunteered their talents to charitable organizations. The Karey and Kareful books stand as a testament to their collective abilities and their knack for captivating the imaginations of children and adolescents alike.
Christopher firmly believes that if Alex, who is an avid reader of the Karey and Kareful collection, embraces it, then it will undoubtedly resonate with others as well. Alex holds the fulfilling role of assisting Christopher in delivering and sharing these books with schools, and his personal favorite school to introduce them to is the IEF at Rose Bay Secondary College. Our IEF students are in gratitude for the books and are always happy to see Alex.
Last Tuesday, the whole school assembly was a celebration of student successes. Evan, from the IEF and the IEF Captain, has been integrating into mainstream Drama and Dance since Year 9 and was able to showcase his talents. In the assembly he spoke to the students and teachers about his individual dance piece, his artistic recount was filled with passion and clarity, and hearing the back story set us up for the spectacular and expressive dance preformed in front of the whole school. Evan, we all applaud you.

The 2023 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge – Keep reading!
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge for each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
The Bob Bellear Memorial Library at Rose Bay Secondary College has a wide selection of PRC books available for students to borrow or to access as e-books on the e-Platform. A small selection of these books are shown in the image below, many of them new to the library.
The 2023 Challenge opened in late February and is open to all RBSC students from Year 7 to Year 10. This year’s Challenge closes on Friday,18 August. Rules have been updated this year so that students can now include up to 10 of their ‘own choice’ books on their reading records (previously only 5). Students can also include any books read from the end of the 2022 challenge on their 2023 reading record. Students who read more than 20 books will be awarded in-school certificates.
Complete information can be found at: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html or via RBSC’s LearnPath NSW Premier's Reading
The PRC Booklists are regularly updated and evaluated to ensure they provide an excellent source of reading recommendations for students taking part in the Challenge. The school’s library team are happy to show students the wide range of PRC books available to borrow. Teacher Librarians, Mrs McLelland and Mr Brandt, who supervise/verify the PRC student logs, are also available to provide guidance or answer any questions.
