Uniform
The weather has definitely turned chilly this week and unfortunately, we are starting to see students not wearing their school uniforms. Wearing the school uniform is a badge of pride, creates an identity for our school and is an important part of being a school student. When students are in uniform, there is no competition about being dressed in the latest trend, making the focus on education and not on fashion. It also takes the stress out of what to put on each morning.
Our school uniform is designed to be diverse and flexible enough to suit all students and after student and community consultation, we are awaiting the arrival of a seniors' blue polo shirt and female-fitting shorts. We have a range of warmer items that students are welcome to mix and match to suit their needs.
If you are experiencing any difficulties with acquiring the uniform, please speak to your Year Advisors.
The uniform shop is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.30 - 2.30. Items can be purchased online at https://rosebay-h.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/uniform.html
Partial Truancy
RBSC has recently updated our partial truancy policy. We know that excellent attendance in class is vital for students to maximise their potential and achieve results of which they can be proud. Research highlights a clear correlation between student attendance and the achievement of quality academic, socio-economic and health outcomes.
It is important for teachers, parents and the RBSC community, due to the ongoing, unacceptable risk to their health and safety, learning, and/or wellbeing, to work together to support student attendance in all classes to maximise student learning outcomes. If a student is marked absent from a class parents /carers will receive an email alerting you of the truancy. If there is a valid reason for the absence, the student must discuss the absence with the teacher who, with professional judgement, can remove the truancy from the system.
Leadership Day
Our student leaders welcomed primary school leaders for our Leadership Day last Friday. We would like to share the feedback from Bellevue Hill Public School - Enjoy!
IEF News
Last Thursday the IEF enjoyed the Athletics Carnival at ES Marks Athletic Field. Everyone participated and the winners were definitely grinners.
My New Gallery
Last Wednesday, IEFM visited the local gallery in the Bondi Pavillion and immersed themselves in the richly tactile and colorful exhibition. This immersive exhibition by Rosie Deacon and Emily Crockford is Big, Big, Big! Part mermaid garden, part titanic shipwreck and part mermaid dance party, the exhibition offers an underwater experience only possible through a collaboration of two leading contemporary artists. Filled with bright colours, fabulous fashion, twisted textiles, hand-painted wallpaper, and music to make you boogie, Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks invites you to attend an underwater installation perfect for young gallery goers as well as those young at heart. Rainbow, Mermaid, Fireworks will live up to its name with an explosion of colour, sparkle, and joy.
Rosie Deacon is a leading Contemporary Artist who uses accessible materials and what may be described as ‘everyday junk’ to create artworks which blur the lines between contemporary art, craft and jewellery. Her solo and collaborative projects have been presented at the Sydney Opera House, Campbelltown Arts Centre, and Wollongong Art Gallery.
Emily Crockford has a long exhibition history and is well known for her public art commissions with Westpac Concord, City of Sydney Hoarding projects, Barangaroo and the University of Technology Sydney. Emily was a finalist in the 2020 and 2022 Archibald Prize. She has collaborated with a number of established designers including Corban & Blair and One Another.

SPORTS NEWS
Last Friday our Boys Knockout Tennis team played against Sydney Boys Technical College as part of the Stan Jones Trophy tournament. Despite some very hard fought and absorbing matches, we fell slightly short and thus do not advance to the next round. Nevertheless, I congratulate the boys on the their efforts. They played against students who play far more frequently in an established team. They represented our school proudly and showed exemplary sportsmanship throughout. Below from left to right: Mr Cook; Oliver; Jamie; Finn and Jack .
Bill turner under 15 boys soccer
The under 15 boys soccer took on Fort Street high school in the last 16 stage of the tournament. The boys have trained well and put in a lot effort prior to the game which showed in a dominant display winning 4-0 on the day. Impressive performances from Elliot Carson in goals and Edward Shand stood out on the day.
The boys are now through the quarter final where they take on an untested Moriah College for a chance to get through to the semi-final stage of the competition.

SRC News
2000's themed mufti
In honour of the foundation of Rose Bay Secondary College in 2003 (now 20 years old), the SRC are holding a 2000's themed mufti day, on the 25th of May, thursday of week 5. We will be having a costume contest, so dress in your best 2000's themed outfit. There will also be a bake sale, bands, a sausage sizzle, and potentially a 2000's themed trivia. We can't wait to see you all then, to celebrate the anniversary of our amazing school.
Year 6 Leadership Day
On Thursday, the SRC hosted 30 primary school captains, prefects and leaders from neighbouring schools to participate in a day of fun, teamwork and leadership. They participated in many activities including an opinionated discussion, conversation on the qualities of a leader, marshmallow and spaghetti tower building competitions, and a trivia to round off the day. The day was a wonderful experience for the future leaders of our school to be introduced to some of their potential peers, and learn about the qualities of a good leader.

Library News
Chat GPT and Artificial Intelligence
The information about the lecture on "Manage Chat GPT and Other Online AI Tools" was sent to our school from the Waverley Library. Any parents who are interested in attending are strongly urged to book directly with the library to hear more about artificial intelligence and its implications for schools and the workplace.
Much Ado About Shakespeare!
Our Shakespeare display in the library has prompted many conversations with students, staff and visiting parents. Did you know that in addition to being a teacher, Miss Kennedy is a professional actor? Soon after graduating from NIDA she was selected to perform with one of Australia’s most prestigious theatre companies, the Bell Shakespeare company.
After a sell-out season of ‘The Comedy of Errors’ (directed by John Bell himself and performed at the Sydney Opera House), Jody was invited to join an international tour in England where she and her cast members travelled to the home of William Shakespeare and performed to packed out theatres in Bath and Blackpool.
Although Miss Kennedy later performed in a host of further Australian TV and theatre productions, the Bell Shakespeare tour is still the fondest career memory for the Bondi-raised talent.
RSBC Student Meets Author Anna Ciddor
It is incredibly rewarding to see students actively participating in pursuits both within and outside of school relating to their love of reading. The library team would like to thank Harper from Year 8 for sourcing a signed poster from Australian author and illustrator, Anna Ciddor for display in The Bob Bellear Memorial Library. Anna Ciddor is a patron of Oz Kids, an organisation to promote and support children's literary and artistic talents and was a 2021 ambassador for Australia Reads. In 2021 she won the Nance Donkin Award for Children's Literature.
