Newsletter Term 2 Week 2
From the Senior Executive
Week Two has been another busy week at RBSC. Some of the highlights include:
· ANZAC DAY CEREMONY: The ANZAC Day Ceremony was held on Tuesday 2nd May. A big thankyou must go to Emily Lawson (HT History), the History Faculty, the technical crew of teachers and students as well as our student leaders for this well run and thoughtful event.
· ATHLETICS CARNIVAL: On Thursday the PDHPE Faculty put on a wonderful Athletics Carnival. A special mention goes to John Flack (PDHPE) for his amazing organisation and leadership. Thank you to all the students and teachers who took part on the day.
· SHAKESPEARE EXHIBITION IN THE LIBRARY: This week the Bob Bellear Memorial Library has been exhibiting a special display of Shakespeare’s works, plays and texts as well as works influenced by the Bard. With books from graphic novels to fiction of Shakespeare’s influence on screen- there is something for everyone to borrow or learn from. A special highlight of the display is the recent generous donation by Mr Robin Hutcheon of his copy of The Norton Facsimile “The First Folio of Shakespeare” to the school. A beautiful tome of Shakespeare’s complete works for Rose Bay Secondary College to enjoy for decades to come.
Congratulations and Goodluck:
A big congratulations to the Junior, Senior and Company Dance Ensembles for gaining successful entry into the In The Spotlight Dance Festival. These students will be representing our school in this dance festival at the Seymour Centre later this term.
Congratulations and good luck to Charlie Byrne (Yr 8) and Niamh Higley (Yr 10) for making it to the NSW Swimming Championships.
Study Skills and Mindfulness
As we move into the assessment period for years 7-10, this is a reminder that it is important for students to prepare thoroughly for all tasks but to also ensure that they are looking after their mental health. Students are encouraged to seek help from their teachers if they are struggling with meeting the requirements of a particular task or if they just want to talk.

Upcoming Parent Teacher Afternoons
Year 12 Parent Teacher night is scheduled for Tuesday 9th May from 3-6pm. Parent registrations are now open.
Please come to the Hall entrance.
Fractional Truancy Communication
Consistent school attendance is a key indicator of success at school. In Term 2 the College will be following up on fractional truancy with timely communication about missed classes. If your child misses a class, you will be receiving an email communication about this absence. The College wishes to be proactive in supporting students who are missing classes so we can find a solution and keep them engaged in learning.
School Bus routes
We had parent communication re the non operation of the 717 bus service yesterday. We have contacted the bus company and received an apology for the inconvenience caused to our community. We encourage our community to log any similar incident with the school through a phone call or email to the College email so we can respond quickly to resolve this with the contractor.
IEF News
A big thank you to the Rose Bay Secondary College community for voting for Josh Oshlack in the Westfield Local Hero Award. He is now officially the Westfield Local Hero (Bondi Junction Westfield). This means that all 3, IEF classes are provided with a term of rich, hands-on music workshops. Last week was our first class and each student enjoyed joining in on the drums, singing and clapping to Australian 80's songs and experimenting with a range of percussion instruments. My favorite was hearing the kids clapping along to, Men at Work's classic Down Under: Buying bread from a man in Brussels He was six-foot-four and full of muscle I said, "Do you speak-a my language?" He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich And he said ......I Come from the Land Down Under...
Community Access to the ANZAC Memorial, Sydney.
Last Friday, the students of IEF H went on Community Access to the ANZAC memorial in Sydney. Students organised their trip by taking a bus and train to Town Hall and, with the help of a map found their way to the Memorial situated in Hyde Park.
Upon arriving at the Memorial, the Head of Learning, Tristan Black guided the students on a fascinating tour of the Memorial. The students explored the exterior of the building, then entered the Hall of Memory. At 11am, the students paid their respects to the ANZACS who had served for Australia by participating in the Commemoration ceremony. The students listened to the Last Post, the Ode of Remembrance, and then dropped a star with a service person’s name engraved on it into the well of contemplation.
Afterwards, the students examined the historical Centenary Exhibition which tells the personal stories of servicemen and servicewomen and their families and the evolution of the Australian military service.
Finally, the students bought lunch in Hyde Park and planned their journey back home.
