From the Senior Executive
This week, the senior executive was reminded of the important work that we do in the college in going beyond just focusing on academic achievements, as we work together as a community to foster in our students a sense of social responsibility and global awareness. Below is an email from a parent whose child finished Year 12 last year and has started his post education living at the university he is attending.
The college and the university appear to be quite proactive and intensive in their attitudes to fairness, equity and diversity. He has commented a few times on how well attuned and prepared he is thanks to the programs that were provided at RBSC and has contrasted his attitudes against those of the private school kids including those from the eastern suburbs. Some of these other kids are now just learning about the stuff you guys covered in year 7 and 8!
Parent of a Year 12 student 2022
There was also this email that was sent to Miss Lockton by a Year 12 student from last year in response to an email Ms Lockton sent her this year.
I don’t think you know me very well since I came to the school in the last few terms of Year 12 but thank you for your kind messages. I’m glad I ended up moving during my last year because I’ve had such a great experience with rose bay, everyone was so warm and welcoming and it makes me so happy that you still reach out to students after they’ve graduated. I wish I could’ve started earlier on at Rose Bay but I feel like I was a part of the year group, and I’m very close to my friends from Year 12. My little sister recently moved to Rose Bay after struggling at her old school like I did and she is already so comfortable and looking forward to each school day and I haven’t seen her this excited in years. Thank you so so much. It’s people like you that make the school so great and I really appreciate it.
Year 12 student 2022
Sometimes, as teachers, it is hard to quantify the work that we do, as we see the “end product” at year 12 Graduation Ceremonies and Year 12 Formals but we are very much aware that the work that has been done with our students stays with them forever. In this instance, we are proud to reflect that Rose Bay promotes positive attitudes to fairness, equity and diversity through fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.

University - 47% with the most popular courses for 2023 being flexible first year Engineering & Health/Healing eg Nursing or Med Science. Three students are studying towards teaching.
TAFE / Private Colleges - 26% It interesting to note that about 15% of these students are looking to pathway into university.
Work/Apprenticeship/Traineeship - 21%
Travel - 6%
Worlds Greatest Shave
Shave for a Cure has become a significant event in our school calendar. Whilst we did not get to the $20,000 target, we have raised over $12,000 with donations still being collected. We acknowledge the outstanding efforts of all the students who fundraised for this event. The gym was abuzz as each student had their hair shaved and the school overwhelmingly voted for Ms Bright to dye her head in dual colour of blue and pink.
Year 8 GREAT AUSSIE BUSH CAMP
The first day of camp was a huge success! Our year 8’s arrived with big smiles and lots of energy, eager to start their adventure. They began the day with an orientation session to familiarize everyone with the camp rules and procedures. Throughout the day, they enjoyed a variety of activities, including canoeing, a survivor challenge and rock climbing. The highlight of the day was the evening challenge. The atmosphere is electric, and they are looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow! Below are some photos of the camp thus far.

Metropolitan Secondary Schools Competition
Parent/adult volunteer(s) are needed!
The NSW Junior Chess League’s Metropolitan Secondary Schools Competition is a team's competition for secondary schools in the Sydney Metropolitan area: Eastern Suburbs Division.
Matches are scheduled on a weekly home-and-away basis and are played on Fridays after school but may be played at other times by arrangement between the schools.
The competition, which is for teams of four players, is played in three separate Grades:
Junior Grade (school years 7 and 8 only)
Intermediate Grade (school years 9 and 10 only)
Senior Grade (school years 11 and 12 only)
Each tournament is conducted as a round robin. The division winners proceed to knock-out finals to determine the region champions.
Teams are limited to four (4) players, but there is no limit for numbers of teams in each age group.
The competition begins in mid-May and registration is Now! So, we urgently need a parent/adult volunteer to supervise the students at home games and transport them to away games.

Debating Report
Congratulations to all our teams who competed in the Eastside and Premier’s Debating
Challenge events over the past week. It is a privilege to see debaters, both new and
accomplished, continue to improve with every debate in which they compete.
Today our Year 12 team were successful in their Premier’s Debating Challenge Round.
Competing against Northern Beaches Secondary College (Manly), RBSC were victorious in claiming
their second life to continue competing in the competition. Maya, Ben L, Finn O and Holly were
negative in debating the topic, “That all high school students should have to complete a vocational course in hospitality or trade”. Congratulations to the team who will now prepare for Round 3.
In Round 2 of the Eastside competition held last Friday, RBSC hosted its first home round
and came away with three wins against The Scots College on the topic, Education. Well done to all the teams and coaches!
Tonight we will debate against Cranbrook on their home ground on the topic of Economics.
Good luck to all the teams!
Music Enemble Program
The MEP is parent-run and we liaise with the program director and help organise fundraising to support the MEP’s activities and ensure the program is adequately resourced, including the mid-year and end-of-year concerts. If you can spare an hour or so a week and are interested in any of the MEP committee roles or would like more information please contacts us at rbscpandc.mep@gmail.com.
The MEP will be holding a fundraising cake stall and sausage sizzle at school next Saturday 25 March, to coincide with the state election. There will also be MEP bands playing to entertain voters. We are asking for donations of cakes and biscuits that we can sell on the day as well as volunteers to help set up and run the stall between about 8am and 2pm. If you can spare an hour or so to help on the stall next Saturday please let us know by email at rbscpandc.mep@gmail.com. Please bring your donations for the cake stall to school on the day (we’ll be set up outside the hall). Come and get your democracy sausage at school next Saturday!
