Newsletter Term 1 Week 2
From the Senior Executive
Activities onsite.
Week Three has seen the College swing back into learning action. As senior executive it is a delight to walk into classrooms and see our students deeply engaged in quality learning. This week alone we have seen animated discussion on cubism, views of the trojan war and classes engaging with Shakespeare, design briefs, algebra and impressionism.
To support these we have a number of cocurricular offerings and excursions happening.
This week our senior CAPA students have attended Onstage and On Call the HSC showcases of exemplary student works. The encore Concert is coming up shortly and we thank Ms Vine and the CAPA faculty for the time spent organising this enrichment.
Planning for year camps is currently occurring and expect to see further communications about these.
Ms De Bono has organised senior study skills sessions for Year 11 and 12 to assist with managing and organising their time.
Debating has started up for the year as has Dance and initial meetings for our school production.
Homework centre will commence next week and we encourage all our students to access this free program that runs in the Library on Monday and Friday from 3:30 pm to 5 pm.
School Photographs are booked for Feb 28- 29 so please put this in the family diary.
Our SRC and Captains are busily preparing for Valentines Day and we look forward to hearing the school filled with serenades and bathed in roses and chocolates on Tuesday.
Attendance
If your child is away from school please email the school to explain the absence.
If you child has a medical appointment or other urgent reason to leave during the school day please ensure that the school has been informed by COB the previous day.
We cannot provide exemptions to the school day for external lessons or activities.
Our Wellbeing Team monitors attendance and will be following up on non-attendance or any patterns of partial attendance. Even a few minutes lost each day can have a big impact on learning and engagement.

From the SRC: We’re celebrating love on Tuesday the 14th of February here at Rose Bay, with Valentine’s Day! An incredible day is ahead of us, and we insist you participate by wearing pink and red mufti, tasting the talent of the incredible bakers here at school at Break 1 and coming by our sausage sizzle at Break 2. To keep the spirit alive, at both breaks, to accompany the delicious food sales, our ever talented rock bands are playing and are bringing quite the incredible show, given they only had two weeks to put their performances together.
Beginning on Monday Week 3, gifts will be available for purchase, including cute smaller
things like chocolates or love notes, but can go as far as romantic serenades for your one and
only. Finally, RBSC’s Pride Alliance has worked with the SRC this year to make this day about
celebrating all types of love, and we’re excited to acknowledge a more inclusive Valentine’s Day.
This event is sure to be an exciting, energy-filled celebration, so be sure to come on down!
We’re excited to see you there!

Years 7 – 12 Rose Bay Secondary College Debating Program Information
The 2023 Debating Program will commence with coaching sessions beginning next Friday, February 10th (Years 7-10) and Tuesday February 7th (for Year 11 and 12).
Rose Bay Secondary College has a strong debating program. We were thrilled to see our Stage 6 team reach the grand final of the Premier’s Debating Challenge last year and other teams enjoyed considerable success in competitions held throughout the year.
Our Debating Tutorial program provides opportunities for students to develop and practise their debating and public speaking skills. Students will have the opportunity to represent RBSC at interschool debating tournaments throughout the year, such as the Premier’s Debating Challenge and Eastside Debating Competition (beginning February 24) as well as social debates.
For Years 7-10, coaching runs on Friday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:45pm in classrooms in B Block English classrooms. Year 11-12 coaching runs on Tuesday afternoons from 2:35pm - 4:05pm. The course will commence on Friday 10 February 2023 and will run throughout terms 1-3, accounting for 27 weeks of coaching. Students are expected to attend all sessions.
Selection for competitive debates is based on merit; and a debater’s attendance and performance in training will be taken into consideration. This program will be run by Mrs Godby, Head Teacher English and supported by a team of experienced debaters and adjudicators.
The annual cost of the program is $260, which goes towards paying the debating coaches. If you would like to register your child for the 2023 Debating Program, please complete this form. If your child is continuing debating from last year, they have been asked to complete a separate form on the Debating Teams page. Students will receive a permission letter with further information about how to pay early next week.
If you have any questions about the program please contact Christy Godby at christine.godby@det.nsw.edu.au
