Newsletter Week 6, Term 4
V-Fest Update
The Chauvel Cinema has just contacted us, saying the back section of Cinema 1 (where V-Fest is screened) is closed for maintenance. As a result, I have created an online booking event to ensure everyone either gets a seat or choses to view the festival online. Please click on the included link for tickets. Maximum of 2 per person.
SRC Planning day
Our SRC students spent a day this week completing workshops and working on initiatives for 2023.
Year 6 transition
Last week, the Transition team ran the first Transition day for our incoming year 6 students from local primary schools. They got to meet their year advisers for 2023, some teachers, school leaders and peer support students. Students experienced a Science class, Drama lesson, library induction, toured the school, learnt high school procedures and most importantly, met some new friends. We are very excited to welcome our incoming Year 7 class of 2023!
Year 7 and 8 Lifesaving week programs
The program is being finalised and the online permission link and information will be sent out early next week.
Any students in years 9, 10, or 11 who are interested in volunteering their time for the Lifesaving programs and have either a Bronze Medallion, a Surf Rescue Certificate, or something similar are to contact Mr. Flack for more details. We are looking to finalise the volunteer numbers by the end of week 6.
Library News and Reviews
Another week and we are now past the halfway mark to holidays once again. The thought of summer holidays is enticing ... but that seems an ideal that vanishes as quickly as it rears its head. However, any weather is book weather so borrow a book from our vast collection and enjoy.
The following is a link to T4L, a technology 4 learning e-magazine. This initiative by DET NSW
is “targeted to Stage 3-4 learners. Each magazine has a focus on a design challenge and is loaded with tech tips to encourage creativity and develop problem-solving skills for real-world scenarios.”
Although directed towards teachers, the magazines contain a wealth of information and ideas for activities that can be completed with limited parental supervision. They are ideal weekend/holiday
activities. As a bonus, they are educationally sound as well!
Started during Covid and with 2 issues per term, there are many back issues and all are
available online to keep one happily engaged for a while. Enjoy!
Reminder Homework Club is run every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30–5:00 pm. Assistance is
given to any and all students with research, homework, assignments, and any studying issues
they may have. No bookings are required.
