Model UN Workshop Day
On Friday 4 November, Maya, Isaac, Ben, and Alex (Year 12), Ellie, Holly, and Sophie (Year 10), and Doug (Year 8) participated in a Model UN Workshop Day held at Cranbrook. As member states of the UN Security Council, our students were required to debate and pass UNSC Resolutions relating to three major contemporary international issues: the ongoing humanitarian and security situation in Sudan, the international energy crisis, and the question of international legal sovereignty. All students engaged with these challenging issues in a thoughtful and meaningful way and represented the College with distinction throughout the day. A big thank you to Mrs Godby for organising such a wonderful opportunity for our students - Mr Weavers.

Save the date! The MEP end-of-year concerts will be held on Tuesday 6 December (ensembles) and Thursday 8 December (rock bands). There will be fundraising raffles on each night and if you know of anyone who might be able to donate prizes including goods and services please contact us via email.
The MEP is still looking for a treasurer so please get in touch if you can help out or would like more information.
SRC Update
It's been a busy week for the SRC this week at RBSC!
On Saturday morning, 15 of our SRC representatives, alongside Ms Callinan and Ms McFayden, represented Rose Bay by handing out water and cheering on the participants at an aid station at the Bondi to Manly Ultramarathon.
The SRC would also like to congratulate the winners of the Halloween costume competition. The winners of the categories can are:
Junior: Eden (Year 9)
Senior: Yshai and Teva (Year 12)
Teacher: Mr Flack
Finally, a massive good luck to everyone who is completing their yearly assessment tasks at the moment. Remember to maintain healthy study habits, look after yourselves, and to do your best. We'll see you all next week!
Careers Day at The Intercontinental Hotel
This week 17 students from Year 9 - 11 visited the Intercontinental Hotel as part of 'Sydney Hospitality Week' to explore the range of careers and employment options available through the Hotel Industry in Australia and overseas. Students enjoyed the amazing spaces at the Intercontinental Hotel, including the view from the new rooftop bar and the exclusive suites on the 26th floor. As part of the exploration of careers in the Culinary division students decorated biscuits and chatted with the Head Chef and the Head Pastry Chef. This was a fantastic learning opportunity for students and was made possible by the REIP (Regional Education and Industry Partnerships) Program.
Year 12 English Extension 1 Poems
Year 12 English Extension 1 have been studying the first unit for the HSC Course; Common Module; Literary Worlds. In this module, students evaluate the ways texts represent and illuminate the complexity of individual and collective lives through a range of imaginary Literary Worlds, and how these Literary Worlds provide commentary and are a reflection of that particular time period.
Year 12 studied The Renaissance Era, developing a critical understanding of literary features and core values specific to this time. As a class, we analyzed ‘Canto 1’ from Dante Alighieri The Divine Comedy, paying close attention to structure, form, language and the exploration of ideas.
Students created their own poem using their understanding of Renaissance ideologies to comment on contemporary issues.
Below are four samples of their excellent work.
Ultramarathon Aid Station
With a cool 5:30 am start some captains and SRC members ventured down to Rose Bay wharf where we helped in operating a break station for the runners of an Ultramarathon (84km)! The runner’s journey begun in Bondi and went around the coast ending in Manly. Our job was to ensure that this break station, which served the runners water and small energy foods like bananas, operated as efficiently as possible. So, we were tasked with moving buckets of water, cutting and serving fruit, hydrolytes, Coke and plain water, as well as general fixing. It was actually a really fun experience and I think that as a collective we learned something pretty cool… It’s still dark at 5:30 am!

RBSC P&C Second-hand School Uniforms Buy, Sell & Swap
The school P&C has a Facebook group for Rose Bay Secondary College families to buy, sell or give away second-hand uniforms, textbooks, musical instruments, music books or school shoes.
This is a great place to check for uniform items that your child will require for next year.
Click here to view the page on Facebook.
Please become a member so you can use the group over the coming years to sell or give away your old uniform items, or buy second-hand items.
TO SELL: Post with details of the item you have for sale. It's a good idea to include a photo.
When you sell something, please delete it from the group so the page stays up-to-date.
TO BUY: Contact a seller via Direct Message if they have an item listed that you would like to buy.
OR: Create a post with details of the item that you would like to buy.
We ask that all items on the page are related to school, and in good reusable condition.
Thanks!
Library News and Reviews
As the weeks march by and we hit the middle of the term, I would like to send out a huge invitation to all to come and browse and borrow from the library. To anyone who prefers the feel of books in their hands rather than reading them on a screen we would love to loan our books to you.
For current news on any subject, our Issues in Society Periodicals are quarterly, and contain all the most up to date information. An added bonus is that the information is far from technical and thus, easy to read and disseminate.
The library will be innovating a new reading project next year and to that end has recently purchased a host of new novels of all genres. Our RBSC library is a fantastic and very well-resourced library and there really is a book for everyone here. Staff are happy to assist with your selection if ever required.
Also, this is a reminder that ClickView, adds new material to its library regularly and that too is a great resource that we in the library oversee. It is another valuable information and enjoyment resource, housing many great information documentaries and movies, that are loved and often not accessible anywhere else.
The homework club continues to be a valuable resource for students needing academic assistance and occurs in the library after school on a Monday and Wednesday 3:30-5:00pm. No booking required! Just show up if you require help.
