Year 12 – Class of 2023 – Important Information
On Wednesday, the RBSC Class of 2023 were provided with their 'Guidelines and Assessment Schedules' and the ‘NESA Rules and Procedure’ booklets for their HSC year.
Inside the booklet is important information including assessment schedules, assessment policies, student responsibilities and useful links and information. Ms Buckley presented a meeting to outline some of the most important information for students to understand NESA requirements and be successful in their HSC year.
On Monday 24 October 2022 at 5:30 pm, Ms Buckley will present the same information to parents and carers. An email has been sent to all Year 12 parents and students with the zoom details and electronic copies of the booklet.
If you are unable to attend at this time, we will record and distribute the webinar for you to watch at your convenience.
Attached you will find the 'RBSC Guideline and Assessment Schedule' and the '2023 Higher School Certificate Rules and Procedures' guide supplied by NESA. These documents will also be available on the students' TEAMS page.
Have your say on what school success looks like
Reflecting on the challenges of the last few years, the NSW Department of Education is in the process of reviewing and evaluating what school success looks like now and in the future. It’s enhancing ways to support student success and wellbeing as part of ongoing school reform. The goal is to support our schools in a way that is more responsive to their needs and priorities.
To inform this work, the department is inviting parents and carers to share their perspectives on what the school and the department could do to improve the schooling experience. By participating, parents and carers will inform the department what is working well, what needs to be improved, and will be involved in shaping new and innovative initiatives.
If you would like to be part of the discussion, there are face-to-face and online forums being held in weeks 5, 6 and 7 of Term 4 (7 – 25 November). You can register your interest and find more information at Have your say on what school success looks like, including the locations and timing of sessions.
Make Every Day Count - Why School Attendance is so Important
Regular attendance allows all students the opportunity to connect, succeed and thrive. This includes strengthening their cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development. We know attendance is a key factor in students being actively connected to their learning, as well as their overall wellbeing.
Do you know how many days your student has not attended this year already?
Above 95% attendance is the expectation of the NSW Department of Education.
Students with attendance rates below 90% may be at risk. A member of our Wellbeing team are the first point of contact with you if your child's attendance is not as high as it should be. They will try to work with you to positively influence your child's attendance at school. If things do not improve, they will request help from the department's wellbeing team in many cases.
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership has put together a short reading on why Attendance Matters.

New Canteen Online Ordering System
We are happy to announce that the canteen will be switching our online ordering provider from Bopple to Spriggy Schools on Monday 24 October. Feedback from parents has indicated that they would like more support from the online provider and also that ease of use is important.
Spriggy Schools ordering is easy and available on an App for phones or tablets as well as a web App to be used on computers. The link is below and is also available on the school's website. Parents can share their login with their child so that the child can order from their own device. Spriggy Schools have a member-experience team based in Sydney who are available through the chat feature from 7am-3pm daily in case of any problems. The cut-off time for orders will be 10:00am. However, if parents miss this deadline they can call Lucy on 0402253711 to arrange lunch for their child. Bopple orders will still be available during the transition time.
Cooling the Schools Program
On Tuesday students helped to plant 260 new tree saplings as part of the Cooling the Schools program! Thanks to Greening Australia for allowing RBSC to be involved.
French Excursion
Last week on Thursday 13 October, year 7 students went on an excursion to see a French film and eat at a French restaurant. We started the day by going to see the film “Little Nicholas” at the cinemas. After seeing an amazing movie, we then headed to The Little Snail restaurant to eat a French lunch. Each student got to choose each part of their 3-course meal. Students got to try snails for their entree, which we enjoyed. Then for the main meal, students had young chicken cooked in red wine, onion soup as well as vegetarian pasta. To end a great meal, we finished with a yummy dessert. We had a very fun day and loved the experience of getting to see a French film and trying French cuisine.

Library News and Reviews
Another week has flown by and we now have only 8 more weeks till the end of the year. Officially it is summer in Sydney…. But who would know! More rain means more indoor time, so what better way to enjoy it but to read!
I have selected a great book this week to review, The Magnolia Sword by Sherry Thomas. This ballad of Mulan, (like the Disney video but much more complete and satisfying) is set in 5th century China. When the Emperor demands that every family sends one soldier to battle, Mulan, disguised as a man joins. Thanks to her high skills in martial- arts, she lands up under the command of the princeling, the royal Dukes son and of course there is a romantic attraction
This story of war and combat, highlighting the escapades of Mulan and the process towards thwarting enemy plans to overrun the kingdom, is interspersed with romance and hidden secrets that totally engage the reader, whilst at the same time allowing one to capture the life and essence of 5th century China and the role of women during that era.
