Newsletter Week 9, Term 3
From the Senior Executive
There has been such a joyful feel to college life this week. The class of 22 have enjoyed dress up week featuring pajama day, dress as a teacher day and wear another school uniform day! Totally amazing to see how many of them still fit in their primary uniform and I am pretty sure I heard the strains of primary school anthems filling the plaza after today's flash dance at break 1. I congratulate this year group for the way they have approached their final couple of weeks at Rose Bay Secondary College, modelling how to have fun and celebrate your years of schooling as well as thank the teachers who have helped you along the way. We can't wait for the first live Year 12 Graduation in a few years which is occurring on Tuesday afternoon next week. We have asked all students to ensure they are in school uniform. Ms Alonzo and Ms Stern are ready to help on Monday or Tuesday if students can't find the correct uniform to wear. I know there are many staff who no longer work here returning for the graduation ceremony. Thank you Year 12 for your contribution to the life of Rose Bay Secondary College Campus throughout your time with us and we wish you well with your upcoming HSC exams.
Year 12 students and staff are busy preparing for the cohort's final week at Rose Bay Secondary College. We congratulate the entire class of 2022 for making it this far as they prepare for the end of year Picnic celebration and Graduation in week 10. For any parents and carers who are yet to book tickets to graduation, please email the school for booking information.

Girls Soccer
A huge congratulations to both soccer girl teams who played sensationally, progressing them into grand final versing one another! It was a great battle between both teams. Well done!
Netball
The 4 netball teams played exceptionally well, with all teams making the finals and ranking in the top 8. Rose Bay 1 went through the round games undefeated to the grand final, placing second in the comp. They played a very strong game. The were down 4-2 and came back to tie the game at full time. Unfortunately, they lost in extra time, with Randwick 1 taking out the grand final. Our volunteer Year 10 student coaches and umpires did an amazing job with the teams.
Boys Soccer
The boys had an amazing day. Due to several other school teams not attending, we did not play a finals system. The team was full of confidence and played very well as a team and were undefeated for the competition. Coach Josh did a marvellous job making sure the boys were playing the right team on the right pitch.
Boys Oz Tag
The Boy's Oz Tag teams approached Heffron Park with uneasiness in their guts, but this initial bout of nerves was quickly overcome as The Trotters (Team 3) manifested a spirit of confidence through their life-affirming pre-game huddle. This electrifying energy was transmitted to Teams 1 and 2 as the boys took to the field with a calm confidence. All players represented RBSC proudly, clocking up several wins and draws in a tough but friendly competition.
Debating and Public Speaking Program
Last week, Cranbrook hosted a social debate for our Year 7 and 8 debaters. Following a beautiful afternoon tea in their new facilities, students were mixed across the two schools to form teams. A range of topics across 3 debates:
- That NSW Police officer should not carry firearms
- That Sydney should be the capital of Australia
- That all students should have to do regular community service (i.e., volunteer, unpaid work)
It was a really fun social event and one which gave the opportunity for our debaters to continue to develop their skills. We will reciprocate a social event with Cranbrook in 2023.
The debating program for 2022 concludes this week. We have witnessed some outstanding achievements – two teams in the Eastside final (Year 7 champions and Year 8 runners-up), the State Runners-up in the Premier’s Debating Challenge (Ellie, Ben, Doug, Holly) and we look forward to hearing the outcomes for Gus in the state semi-final and the Legacy Public Speaking Competition and the Year 8 team who are in the final series for the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Along with these outstanding achievements, there have been countless students in the program who may not have experienced competitive competition success, but who have shone every week in bringing their enthusiasm and work ethic to coaching sessions and made exponential improvement throughout the program.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the fantastic coaches who have provided outstanding coaching to the students – Conna, Savie, Ariella, Alejo and Luca. Thank you also to the parents and carers who have been so supportive and accommodating, especially during the the Covid-infection epoch of Term 1 and 2 which saw much last-minute shuffling. Seeing the enthusiasm of your children every Friday afternoon and watching their confidence and skills continue to develop has been a wonderful experience. Countless thanks must be extended to Kim Kench, our amazing parent representative who has been fundamental in supporting me in the coordination of the 2022 program. Kim has a genuine investment in the success of the debating program and the development of every student’s skills and confidence.
I will be evaluating the program in the coming weeks and begin preparations for the launch of the 2023 program in early February next year. I do very much hope to see your children return to the program!
