Mask Wearing
Masks are an effective way of minimising the transmission of respiratory viruses and infections, and protecting our community, especially those who are at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and flu.
We urge you not to become complacent and strongly recommend masks to minimise transmission within our school, and to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and school community.

NAIDOC Morning Tea
On Thursday 28 July, a morning tea was held for Bob Bellear's family to thank them for their continuing support for our school library, dedicated to Bob Bellear, the first One Nation's judge to sit on a Court of Law in NSW. His wife, Kaye continues to take an active role and interest in social and educational issues. Her contribution is a shining testament to courage and dedication. Linda Burney is a close friend of Kaye Bellear and her family. She is the first Minister for Indigenous Australians and had opened the library in 2007. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend as she was in Canberra for the opening of Parliament. Bob Bellear's values of "compassion, commitment, inclusion and equity" are an inspiration to our school. Granddaughter, Nia, gave the "Acknowledgement to Country" which had been developed by our group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, Tjara, grandson presented her with a bouquet of native flowers and greenery and the Principal, Melinda Bright, welcomed the family to the school. Later, they were taken to the library to view the physical and digital collection. Kaye later sent an email thanking the Library staff and the school for the morning tea. In her words, "The library is an absolute credit to you and the school. I dare say no other school...has such a library. "
Talent Development Project
Xavier in Year 10 has been successful in being selected for the prestigious Talent Development Project. Xavier will start his workshops with the other successful candidates on Monday and Tuesday next week. TDP as it is known is a program designed to foster talent and links students with industry professionals as mentors and tutors.
It is a highly competitive selection process and we congratulate Xavier on his success.
More Premier's Debating Challenge Wins
Our wonderful team of (mostly not Stage 6) debaters defeated the Sydney Boys' High School Stage 6 A Team in the State Quarter Final. They argued for Negative 'That we should allow offenders to pay compensation to their victims in place of a prison sentence'.
The team then went on the win the State Semi Final on Wednesday against Crestwood High School.
Today, in the State Grand Final, saw the result go to Sydney Girls High School. Our wonderful debating team acquitted themselves remarkably well with some strong points and rebuttal. We congratulate the State Champions and look forward to many similar opportunities. Runners up against such strong opposition is a superb result overall.
Thank you to Mrs Godby and all staff and students involved in the debating program. This result is a testimate to the many hours put into this successful program.
The Year 8 team have also come away with a win. This time RBSC was successful against Matraville High School for Round 3. They argued in the negative for 'We should immediately punish any player that shows any form of dissent toward a referee.'
The team were all highly praised by the adjudicator for their cohesive, valid arguments that won decisions for every round.

RBSC Library News and Reviews
Supporting our HSC students. The Library has a number of 2020 Exam Workbooks. Specially published by NESA – the NSW Education Standards Authority. These contain 2020 exam questions, marking guidelines, sample answers from top scoring students and HSC marking feedback.
If the HSC was to be compared to a sport, then one would have to know all the rules and practice to get better. So too is it with the HSC. Marking guidelines would be the rules, and the more questions that are practiced, answered, and checked against marking guidelines and feedback the more proficient one becomes.
RBSC reading competition. On a term-by-term basis, the library will award prizes to students who read the most books. Let library staff know you are entering the competition and fill in the book review sheet when you return your books!
PRC reading challenge. This ends in the middle of August. Books read for this challenge will also be counted towards the library reading competition.
HSC student collection. Study guides and textbooks to better prepare our HSC students for greater success in their final exams.
Homework club every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30–5:00pm. Assistance is given to any and all students with research, homework, assignments, and any studying issues they may have.
