Executive Report

Subject Selection

It was a pleasure to welcome the parents of Year 8 and 10 for our Subject Selection afternoon. This is the factfinding start to considering what subjects students will choose for Stage 5 and Stage 6. Ongoing year presentations and individual support is happening so don’t hesitate to reach out for further advice to our Year Deputies and Advisors.

Thank you for the positive feedback about the event and especially the comments in relation to the expertise and passion of our staff. I see this in action every day when I am in classes and out and about.

In summary the key advice is:

1. Take your time. There is no advantage to being the first one entered as we develop the classes and lines based on the whole year cohorts’ choices.

2. Collect all the information you need. Ensure you have a plan A and B so you enjoy the 2 years of study.

3. Listen to the wisdom of your teachers and advisors, your friends may not give you the best advice.

We are aware many of our parents' school experience is in other countries and different education authorities. To assist you to understand the NSW system, we will be running a webinar in Week 1 with an overview of high school progression and the academic considerations for Years 9-12. This will be recorded so you can access it after the event.

Bayfest Reborn

Our student leaders with the untiring support of Ms Nadia Kaye have been working hard to get this ready. Bayfest is tonight, Thursday 26 June from 4 -7 pm. We look forward to welcoming everyone onsite for music, food and fun.

A huge thank you to everyone in our community who has generously donated prizes or to the silent auction. We appreciate your support of our College.

NAIDOC week celebrations.

On the heels of our successful Reconciliation week, we will be observing NAIDOC week in Week 10 with a formal assembly. The students led by our First Nations Captain Ari  have organised a thoughtful and insightful event.'

Kilometre Club: Recharging Mind, Body & Soul One Step at a Time.

Each day at midday, students from all three IEF classes gather on the school oval for Kilometre Club—a refreshing and inclusive activity designed to rejuvenate students before the midday slump. Together, they walk five laps of the oval, covering one kilometre (200 metres per lap).

More than just a walk, Kilometre Club is a moment to reset. It offers students a chance to move their bodies, clear their minds, and lift their spirits, setting them up for a positive and focused afternoon of learning.

The benefits are many: walking boosts physical fitness, improves concentration, reduces anxiety, and encourages emotional regulation. It’s also a calming activity that reconnects students with their breath, movement, and surroundings—nourishing the mind, body, and soul.

Importantly, Kilometre Club brings all three IEF classes together, creating a safe and relaxed space for students to build social skills, strengthen friendships, and enjoy a sense of community.

Staff also join in, making it a shared wellbeing initiative that enhances connection and camaraderie across the IEF.

Netball Update

Hi everyone, my name is Abi. Many of you have probably seen me around the school. I play netball for the school on Saturdays with Sophie O, Isadora B, Sofia M, Clara D, Robyn R, Sienna S, Jesse K, and our amazing coach Lily S.

We’re having a fantastic season so far, remaining undefeated and currently sitting in first place!

This past Saturday, we played against the Marrickville All Stars and won 52–29. They were a wonderful team to compete against, showing great sportsmanship, which we were proud to return.

I really enjoy representing our school in a sport I love, especially alongside such a great group of friends.

We would love to see our school’s netball community grow, so if you’re interested in joining, please contact Mr Flack. Everyone is welcome! And if you’re free on Saturdays, come down and support our teams at the Heffron Netball Courts—we’d love to see you there.

Rugby League Returns: Mate vs Mate Clash Delivers at Rodney Reserve

On Friday 13th June, Rodney Reserve played host to a spirited and hard-fought Rugby League match between the Year 12/11 Senior team and the Year 10/9 Junior team. Played in true State of Origin “mate versus mate” style with both teams bringing commitment, pride, and passion to every tackle.

From the opening whistle, the intensity was evident. The juniors were first to cross the line, showing slick ball movement and fearless attack. The seniors responded shortly after, and the back-and-forth scoring continued throughout the match, with the juniors consistently edging ahead before the seniors hit back.

In a game marked by strong defence, improved communication, and genuine teamwork, both sides demonstrated how far they’ve come since their last hit-out against Belmore Boys. The defensive efforts and attacking structures were significantly more disciplined and effective — a credit to the hard work and commitment shown at training.

Ultimately, it was the Junior team who held their nerve and sealed the win with a late try, securing a 28–22 victory in what was an entertaining and closely contested match.

Each team was asked to nominate:

  • Their own best player, and
  • The opposition’s best player — a great way to show mutual respect and sportsmanship.

Junior Team nominations: Own Player - Hugh Yr 10 , Senior Player- Raph Yr 12

Senior Team nominations: Own Player - Dean Yr 8, Junior Player - Hugh Yr 10

Congratulations to all of the players nominated.

Lee from Year 12 "Both teams put in a huge effort in what was a close and competitive game. While we didn’t get the win, it was clear how much everyone’s skills have improved since the start of the term - in both skill & confidence.Overall, the whole experience has been a great part of our final year, with tough trainings, competitive games, and a strong sense of team to finish school with."

Special thanks go to:

  • Mr Joseph Hughes for his ongoing support with training and game-day logistics,
  • Mr Luke McNaught and the PE prac teachers for running the BBQ on the day,
  • The parents who generously provided cupcakes and cookies for the boys,
  • Special shoutout to Eden Pryor and Luca Norris from Year 9. Both boys played the full game an put in a strong performance with big runs and solid defence. Well done boys!
  • Special shoutout to Josh Sher, whose passion and persistence have played a major role in the revival of Rugby League at RBSC. His enthusiasm in rallying peers and encouraging staff to organise trainings has truly paid off.

League is back at RBSC — and we couldn't be prouder.

Music Ensembles Shine in Spectacular Showcases

This week, the school community was treated to two unforgettable nights of music, highlighting the incredible talent and dedication of our students and staff.

On Wednesday night, the Music Ensembles Program presented a stunning array of performances, featuring the String Ensemble, Jazz Band, Concert Band, Stage Band, and Choir, under the expert direction of Murray Jackson. The evening was a true celebration of musical diversity and student achievement, warmly received by an audience of proud family and friends. A heartfelt thank you goes to the MEP parent volunteers, led by the tireless Che Dunlop, whose support made the night possible.

Then on Thursday, the stage came alive again with Rose Bay Rocks, showcasing the raw energy and impressive talent of our Years 7–12 Rock Bands. With a wide-ranging repertoire and rockstar finesse, students delivered high-impact performances under the dynamic leadership of Rock Band Director Sean Windsor.

A huge thank you to Mr Justin Ossher and the incredible VET Entertainment crew, who dedicated their time and expertise to both nights, ensuring top-notch lighting and sound support. Their behind-the-scenes work brought the performances to life.

We also extend our gratitude to Arts Captain, Year 12 student Winston, for his outstanding contributions both behind the scenes and as the charismatic Master of Ceremonies across both nights.

Both events were a testament to the vibrant music and performing arts culture at our school — congratulations to all involved for two spectacular evenings of entertainment!

Year 8 Technology Students Become Digital Problem-Solvers!

In Year 8 Technology this term, students stepped into the shoes of tech heroes on a mission to make the world a better place! Guided by the design thinking process, they began by identifying real-world problems that affect people, communities, or the environment. The students explored how technology could be used to create meaningful solutions.

As part of this exciting design brief, students acted as detectives researching, analysing data, and gaining a deep understanding of their chosen challenge. From there, they entered the digital lab, where they applied coding skills and digital tools to develop innovative prototypes aimed at solving these problems.

One impressive example came from Tyler and Winter, who designed a camping app they cleverly named "Tinter". Their app is designed to support campers in the great outdoors by helping users find safe firewood, manage campfire safety, and track nearby camping facilities. Their creative solution was backed by research, thoughtful user interface design, and a keen awareness of environmental responsibility.

The project didn’t stop at design, Tyler and Winter tested and evaluated their prototypes, considering functionality, user needs, and digital safety. From bold sketches to interactive mock-ups, these young designers brought their ideas to life and demonstrated the power of design and technology to tackle real-world challenges.

We’re incredibly proud of the creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills shown by all our Year 8 students. The future of innovation is looking very bright!
