Executive Report

As we move deeper into Term 2, Rose Bay Secondary College has been proud to centre reconciliation, student learning, and community spirit across a range of events and initiatives.

Reconciliation Week

This year’s Reconciliation Week was led by our inspiring First Nations Captain Ari Segelov-Smith, whose leadership brought authenticity to our shared journey toward reconciliation. The week began with a powerful Smoking Ceremony, creating a reflective and respectful tone for the days ahead. Each class participated in meaningful activities as part of our Indigenous Day of Learning, designed to foster greater understanding and promote reconciliation in our school community.

Assessment Period Underway

We are in the midst of a busy assessment period, and students are encouraged to stay organised and proactive. Teachers have been providing support and guidance, and we commend the many students who are demonstrating commitment and resilience during this time.

Study Skills Seminars & Study Guide Launch

This week, all year groups took part in Study Skills Seminars facilitated by Ms Bowd and Mr Godby. These practical sessions focused on time management, organisation, and exam preparation. As part of this initiative, every student received the new RBSC Study Guide, a valuable tool to support academic success across the year.

Athletics Carnival

Our Athletics Carnival takes place this week and promises a fantastic day of competition, participation and fun. Whether you’re racing or cheering, we encourage everyone to be part of the day.

Attendance Matters – Every Minute Counts

A reminder to all families that every minute counts. Regular attendance is vital for academic progress, wellbeing and staying connected to school life. Arriving on time and attending every class maximises learning opportunities and helps students feel more confident and supported.

If your child is experiencing challenges with attendance, please don’t hesitate to contact the school so we can work together to support them.

Introducing the RBSC Study Guide – A Resource for Academic Success

We are pleased to share that Rose Bay Secondary College has developed a definitive RBSC Study Guide in consultation with students, parents, and staff.

Over the past two days, all students attended a presentation on the RBSC Study Guide, which outlines effective study habits, time management strategies, subject-specific techniques, and how to balance school commitments with wellbeing.

We encourage all parents and carers to review these materials with their child and start a conversation about how they can be used at home to support learning and build confidence throughout the school year.

Your involvement in supporting your child’s study routines and academic goals is invaluable, and we thank you for being part of this shared commitment to student success.

IEF News

We had a wonderful week filled with sunshine and engaging activities across all classes. To mark the beginning of Reconciliation Week, all students took part in a  Smoking Ceremony, setting a respectful and reflective tone for the week.

Our senior students also had the valuable opportunity to attend a Licence Talk presented by Service NSW, gaining important insights into road safety and the process of obtaining a driver's licence.

As part of their Geography studies, students from IEF 3 visited Bondi Beach. They enthusiastically engaged in discussions about water safety and beach activities and practised using maps to identify key points of interest in the area.

Meanwhile, IEF 2 enjoyed a successful community access outing to Bondi Junction, where they practised safe travel skills in a real-world setting.

All IEF classes have continued preparing for the upcoming Athletics Carnival, with students showing fantastic energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit.

Dance Excursion

On Wednesday 28th June students from years 9-12 elective Dance classes travelled to the Roslyn Packer Theatre to see Bangarra Dance Theatre's new work, 'Illume'.

Choreographed by Frances Rings, 'Illume' explores stories from the Kimberley region focussing on how light has captivated and sustained Indigenous culture for millennia. The work was a captivating blend of dance, design, lighting and visual art, and the reviews from the students were overwhelmingly positive.

Highlights included the creative depiction of a shark, a remarkable tasseled costume, and the use of light-up ropes in the choreography. The students were also lucky enough to hear a Q and A between the rehearsal director and 2 of the dancers, sharing insights into their journey to Bangarra and the creative process of forming the work.

Thank you to all the students for the maturity and responsibility you showed on the excursion and engaging with this wonderful performance!
