Executive Report
A warm welcome back for Term 2.
The College extends its congratulations to Ms Kathy Barlow on her appointment as Head Teacher, Maths. Kathy has been Relieving Head Teacher since January 2024 and brings deep experience in the full breadth of Maths curriculum and innovative programs in STEM and girls education.
Our staff commenced the Term with professional learning on High Potential and Gifted Education. As the College has well embedded understanding of this policy, staff focus was on higher tiers of understanding with presentations on catering for the creative domain and differentiation for gifted students.
A Welcome Back Assembly was convened at the commencement of Term to promote the College focus on Challenge and Bravery and to explicitly outline the College expectations of being a Respectful Responsible Learner. Ms Lawson, our Calmer Classrooms coordinator will also be following up with Year groups this week and daily reminders will be posted on Sentral. The current focus is on Respect. Mr Floriano launched the positive Termly Challenge. The College will be tallying all positive incidents minus negative to arrive at a total number of rewards. At the end of the term the Year with the most awards over the threshold of 1500 positives will receive a rewards session of a sausage sizzle and games at school. Let the challenge begin!

On Thursday we followed up with our Anzac ceremony. Kelly Sloane attended and commended our student body on their respect and focus.
Parent teacher conferences for Year 7 are being held today in the gym.
Term 2 is always a busy time a steady program of assessment tasks due and with reports being finalised for all years. To support our students and parents in this we are currently developing a study skills booklet which will be launched soon. ( we will be presenting at next weeks P&C meeting so come along for a sneak peek.)
Ms Archer has scheduled time every morning at the front of the college to greet our students coming to school but also to assess road safety. Ms Archer commends students who have consciously changed their habits to using the crossing to ensure safety. All parents are reminded to encourage their children to follow the road rules and not cross at the front of the College around the intersection of Kippara Road. This is very busy of a morning and there have been some near misses for students crossing between buses and in front of turning vehicles. Thank you for your attention to this.

ANZAC Day
On Thursday 1 May, our school community gathered for a moving ANZAC Day assembly, honouring the courage and sacrifice of all who have served. We were privileged to welcome special guest Ms Kellie Sloane, Member for Vaucluse, who shared thoughtful reflections on service and remembrance. Our students delivered powerful speeches, highlighting the enduring values of the ANZACs and the many contributions made both on the front lines and at home.
A standout moment was the musical performance by Linus, whose exceptional playing of both the Last Post and the Rouse added a poignant atmosphere to the ceremony. The entire student body demonstrated exemplary respect throughout the proceedings, particularly during the speeches and the minute of silence. Their maturity and conduct truly reflected the solemnity and significance of the occasion. We thank everyone involved in organising this important event.

Student Survey
In Term 2, we are offering our students the opportunity to participate in the NSW Public Schools Student Survey. The survey gives students the chance to share their thoughts and feelings about life at school, including questions about their engagement, learning experiences and wellbeing at school.
Hearing directly from our students will help us understand what’s working well and where improvements can be made to our school. The survey is confidential, takes around 10 to 15 minutes to complete, and will be conducted online during school hours.
Participation is voluntary. If you prefer your child not to participate, please complete the opt-out consent form, which will be sent home, and return it to the school. Further information about the survey is available at https://education.nsw.gov.au/npss

Careers Bites Program
Would you or someone else you know in our local community like to be a part of the RBSC Careers Bites Program in 2025?
This is a great program which aims to bridge the gap between external industry and our internal school community, providing RBSC students the opportunity to hear first hand experiences from local community members about life post school, the inner workings of different industries and the world of work.
Perhaps you, a family member, family friend or another connection you have are small business owners, an apprentice or tradesperson, lawyer, doctor, nurse, psychologist, pilot, community liaison officer etc., (the list is endless!) and would like the opportunity to speak with students in our school community. All career fields are valued and we welcome any level of experience, profession and area of expertise.
Sessions run for 30 minutes each (including question time) and offer valuable insight for students into different fields of work.
If you would like more information or would like to be involved, please email Miss Georgia Bowd: georgia.bowd4@det.nsw.edu.au

Library News
This year we are concentrating on reading skills in our library lessons with Year 7. These are held in conjunction with the Year 7 English course. We began by emphasising the benefits of reading such as improved literacy skills such as accuracy with punctuation, spelling and expression. Students offered responses regarding the way our imagination can be triggered and as a teacher I explained that good reading habits can also benefit the sophistication and rich use of language in creative writing responses, which has always been a significant component of English from Year 7 to Year 12.
Additional benefits of reading are:
· improving concentration and ability to focus
· improving memory and recall
· building areas of the brain that are linked with language and intelligence
· improves mental health and makes you feel more positive
· makes you more likely to try new things and
· helps you fall asleep.
The last benefit listed is particularly useful as a means to lessen anxiety and stress for young people growing up in an increasingly complex world.

We encourage all students to take advantage of this valuable resource to stay on top of their studies in a supportive environment.
We look forward to seeing you there!
