Executive Report
NAPLAN Engagement
We are proud to report that all students in Years 7 and 9 engaged very well in the NAPLAN process this year. The assessments, designed to measure literacy and numeracy skills, are an important part of our educational framework, and our students approached them with maturity and focus.
Staff members have praised our students for their exemplary behaviour throughout the assessments, reflecting their commitment to their learning and the school’s values. The positive atmosphere during NAPLAN was commendable, and it is clear that our students took the process seriously.
A special thank you goes to Ms Jess Gray for demonstrating outstanding leadership in undertaking this mammoth task with such success. Your meticulous planning and coordination ensured that everything ran smoothly, allowing our students to perform at their best. Your efforts have made a significant impact on our school community, and we are grateful for your hard work!

IEF News
This week, our IEF students had the opportunity to use the mainstream kitchen to create a delicious and easy savoury snack—pastry pizza squares! Using pre-made puff pastry as a base, they added tomato sauce, grated cheese, cabanossi, and sliced cherry tomatoes before baking their creations to perfection.
Along the way, students practiced important kitchen safety skills and gained confidence in preparing an achievable, tasty snack. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that combined learning with fun—and some very tasty results!

Year 12 Visual Arts Excursion
Last week, our Year 12 Visual Arts students embarked on an enriching excursion to the Art Gallery of NSW to experience ARTEXPRESS 2024— an exhibition showcasing exemplary HSC Bodies of Work from across the state. Students attended insightful talks and panel discussions, where former HSC Visual Arts students shared their creative journeys, offering valuable perspectives on the conceptual and technical development of their major works. This firsthand experience deepened our students’ understanding of the Body of Work process, providing inspiration and practical strategies to refine their own HSC submissions.
Following ARTEXPRESS, students explored the Cao Fei exhibition, immersing themselves in the artist’s futuristic and multimedia-driven works. This experience encouraged critical thinking about contemporary art practices, expanding their understanding of installation, digital media, and conceptual storytelling—key elements that can inform and elevate their own creative processes.
The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with high-calibre artworks, industry insights, and professional artistic practices, equipping them with new ideas, techniques, and motivation to push their creative boundaries as they develop their HSC Bodies of Work.

Debating News
We are thrilled to announce that RBSC hosted Round 3 of Eastside Debating on Friday night, and the results were nothing short of spectacular! Our Years 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12 teams all achieved remarkable victories against School B in their respective debates. The Year 10 team also put forth a commendable effort, narrowly missing out on a win with a close score.
The atmosphere during the debates was electric, with students showcasing their exceptional research, persuasive speaking, and critical thinking skills. Each team embraced their topics with enthusiasm and demonstrated outstanding teamwork. The support from our school community was evident, with staff, parents and students attending to cheer on their peers.
A heartfelt congratulations goes out to all the teams for their hard work and dedication. We also extend our gratitude to their coaches, who provided invaluable guidance and support. A special shoutout to Mr Ari Papas, our debating coordinator extraordinaire, whose expertise in orthography and passion for debating have truly elevated our program. Your commitment to nurturing our students' talents is deeply appreciated!

Open Boys and Girls Touch Footy
2025 brought about a new direction from the Sydney East Knockout organisers. They were looking at the draws and were trying to make it easier for schools who submitted teams for both the Boys and Girls competitions.
Both teams drew Inner Sydney High School. The game was organised for 7th March at Erskineville Park, Erskineville.
The boys played first and it was an even contest for the first couple of minutes until RBSC took control through their International representative, Hussein – representing Lebenon for the under 20’s Touch Footy Competition.
With multiple try scorers and dominating play RBSC were eventual winners 11-2. The highlight of the day was our amazing winger, Frankie, scoring in the corner against his old school. He was a very delighted young man.
The girls were next up. Another even contest for majority of the game until Inner Sydney started to dominate in the second half of the game.
Inner Sydney were a tough opposition that had several skilled played that directed the team into try scoring positions.
Inner Sydney were eventual winners 8-3.
The boys are now scheduled to play Heathcote HS in week 10. Fingers crossed for the boys.

Open Girls Football
The girls were eager to play Strathfield High School from the moment the heard the first round opponent news.
Leading from the middle of the park, Nikita dominated play and commanded the girls around her. Due to several mistakes, the girls went down 1 nil in the middle of the first half. The girls re-grouped and fought back with Isobel scoring to level the scorers. Massive cheers from the sideline substitutes and the extra crowd spurred the girls on. Again, the girls went down to another goal from Strathfield HS but the never gave up.
Half-way through the second another superb goal from our crowd loved striker Isobel, we levelled the scores with 10 minutes to go.
We kept up our dominance but could not score the winning goal until a last-minute penalty. Successfully taken by Nikita, the Girls won 3-2.
The team is now scheduled to play Woolooware HS in round 2 in week 10.

Rugby League Updates
Our Under 14's and Opens Rugby League teams have been training diligently over the past six weeks, preparing for their respective Knockout Competitions. As mentioned in our last newsletter, the Under 14's achieved success in their first game and faced Sylvania High School in their second match on Wednesday. Despite a tough contest against a skilled opposition, our team displayed great strength and determination. Unfortunately, they lost the game 8-40, but their improvement and resilience were commendable.
The Opens team also faced a formidable opponent when they traveled to play Belmore Boys’ High School. The opposition was large and skilled, but our boys showed great school spirit, fighting back after conceding two quick tries to end the first half at 4-20. The second half was a seesaw battle, and the boys seemed to gain the upper hand until an unfortunate injury to one of players brought the game to an abrupt end. We are relieved to report that the injured player has recovered well.
Both teams are eager for more games, and while they were entered into a Gala competition, it was unfortunately cancelled due to insufficient school entries. Mr Ian Godby is actively seeking opportunities for the Under 14's, Under 16's, and Opens teams to play one more game. If anyone has contacts that could assist in arranging matches, please reach out to him.
A big thank you to Mr Joseph Hughes for his invaluable assistance with coaching, strapping, and running water for all our games. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Careers Bites Program
Would you or someone else you know in our local community like to be a part of the RBSC Careers Bites Program in 2025?
This is a great program which aims to bridge the gap between external industry and our internal school community, providing RBSC students the opportunity to hear first hand experiences from local community members about life post school, the inner workings of different industries and the world of work.
Perhaps you, a family member, family friend or another connection you have are small business owners, an apprentice or tradesperson, lawyer, doctor, nurse, psychologist, pilot, community liaison officer etc., (the list is endless!) and would like the opportunity to speak with students in our school community. All career fields are valued and we welcome any level of experience, profession and area of expertise.
Sessions run for 30 minutes each (including question time) and offer valuable insight for students into different fields of work.
If you would like more information or would like to be involved, please email Miss Georgia Bowd: georgia.bowd4@det.nsw.edu.au
