Why Choose Public Education?
Executive Report
It has been a busy and exciting week at RBSC, filled with wonderful student achievements that will be detailed throughout this edition of our eNews. Our students continue to make us proud with their dedication, resilience, and enthusiasm for learning.
A huge congratulations to all students who participated in NAPLAN this week. The process ran incredibly smoothly, thanks to the excellent organisation of Ms Jess Gray, Head Teacher of Teaching & Learning Support, the focused efforts of our students meant that their approach to the assessments demonstrated perseverance and a strong commitment to doing their best.
Meanwhile, students across all year groups are in the midst of completing or preparing for key assessment tasks. These tasks provide valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding and refine their skills as we progress through the term.
Next Wednesday, our Year 7 students will be heading off to the Great Aussie Bush Camp in Kincumber. This camp is an incredible opportunity for them to build resilience, develop teamwork skills, and strengthen friendships as they step outside their comfort zones in a fun and supportive environment. We look forward to hearing all about their experiences when they return!
More details on all these events and achievements can be found below. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for their continued support in making our school such a vibrant learning community.

Naplan
The NAPLAN window will close on Monday, 24 March.
We have scheduled catch-up sessions for students who were unable to complete their assessments, and families have been informed of these opportunities.
If a student is unable to attend a catch-up session, they will be recorded as 'absent' for NAPLAN. Please reach out to the Head Teacher of Teaching and Learning Support, Ms Gray, if you have any questions or need further support.
IEF News
Congratulations to Sebastian for achieving his NSW Industry Standard White Card!
He set himself the goal of attaining this important certification, demonstrating dedication and perseverance throughout the process. Sebastian worked hard to complete the required training, showing great focus and determination to reach this milestone.
This achievement opens pathways for future opportunities in the construction industry, and we are incredibly proud of his efforts. A special thank you to our Careers Advisor, Georgia Bowd, for her guidance and support in helping Sebastian accomplish his goal!

Community commendation for Darcy (Year 11) - volunteer for the Bondi Dippers Autism Swim Program
I’m delighted to share that one of our very own Darcy, who has been a dedicated helper in the Bondi Dippers Autism Swim Program for a number of years, is an unofficial Instagram star! His involvement in this meaningful program has now been featured on Instagram, highlighting their commitment to supporting children with autism in building confidence in the water.
Darcy was one of the water support lifesavers for my son Logan (age 7) at the time. Darcy was instrumental in providing consistency of comfort and support to Logan during the 7 week program. Logan adored Darcy and looked forward to seeing him every week. Darcy was caring and extremely genuine in his joyful communication with Logan and participated in all sorts of in and out swims, races on the beach and playing tag and responded well to Logan's challenges. Darcy approached his role with care, cheer, thoughtfulness and maturity beyond his years, proactively seeking advice and support from his elder peers, autism swim and myself when required. He is a real credit to the Bondi SLSC community.
It’s always wonderful to see our students making a positive impact in the community, and this is a great example of leadership, empathy, and service in action.
If you’d like to check it out on Instagram here is the link!

Earth and Environmental Science Excursion
Last Monday, our Year 11 Earth and Environmental Science students embarked on an inspiring visit to the Australian Museum. The trip provided them with hands-on experiences as they explored the museum’s incredible rocks and minerals collection, gaining insights into the traditional uses of these natural treasures by Aboriginal peoples—including how they crafted, collected, and traded essential tools and resources.
The students also engaged in a dynamic activity simulating global economic trade, competing as countries to advance their resource management strategies. After enjoying a sunny lunch in Hyde Park, the group continued their journey through the museum, delving into exhibits on sustainable futures and fossils. It was particularly fascinating to learn about the processes behind fossil formation and the theories explaining how the ever so popular dinosaurs went extinct.

Debating News
Congratulations to the Year 8, 9 and 10 teams who won their debates against Sydney Boys High School last Friday! Year 8 is currently undefeated, having won their previous debate against Grammar. This week RBSC hosts Reddam House in debates across 7-12, on a motion that is related to Ethical Issues. We wish all our teams the very best of luck.
This year, two of our high achieving debating alumni have joined the coaching team – welcome Holly and Edward! Thank you to our Debating Coordinator, Mr Ari Papas, P&C Parent Rep, Kim Kench and all the team’s coaches.
Year 8 Food Tech
Year 8 have been making some pretty amazing dishes lately! These include Anzac Biscuits, Thai Curry Puffs, Chocolate Chip Muffins and Beef Tacos. Well done to our awesome budding Chefs.

Sport News
On Wednesday 5th March, the Rose Bay Open Boys Basketball team travelled to Sydney Boys High School to play in the third round of the Combined High Schools Knockout tournament. Despite missing Jagger, the team started out fierce with a quick timeout called by the opposition after three minutes. The game was kept even throughout the first 37 minutes, with big minutes put in by Phoenix, Finn, Joseph and Massimo. Our year 10 boys, namely Toby and Robbie also put up significant minutes. Despite a close game throughout, Sydney Boys pulled away in the end and won 41-33. Massive shoutout to the whole team who played a strong game from start to finish, including Zhyon, Oliver, Mani, Hussein and Oz .

White Card Training
Last Wednesday 12th March more Year 10, 11 and 12 students completed the White Card course. Once again, the group were fantastic and should be very pleased for attaining their qualification.
This qualification allows students to work on a job site. Many will now explore work experience, 'holiday jobs' and apprenticeships opportunities, allowing them to open more post school doors.

Careers Bites Program
Would you or someone else you know in our local community like to be a part of the RBSC Careers Bites Program in 2025?
This is a great program which aims to bridge the gap between external industry and our internal school community, providing RBSC students the opportunity to hear first hand experiences from local community members about life post school, the inner workings of different industries and the world of work.
Perhaps you, a family member, family friend or another connection you have are small business owners, an apprentice or tradesperson, lawyer, doctor, nurse, psychologist, pilot, community liaison officer etc., (the list is endless!) and would like the opportunity to speak with students in our school community. All career fields are valued and we welcome any level of experience, profession and area of expertise.
Sessions run for 30 minutes each (including question time) and offer valuable insight for students into different fields of work.
If you would like more information or would like to be involved, please email Miss Georgia Bowd: georgia.bowd4@det.nsw.edu.au

In Year 7, students are offered free vaccines for diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (dTpa) and human papillomavirus (HPV). In Year 10, students are offered the meningococcal ACWY vaccine.
Vaccination will only be provided at school if consent has been received. Online consent will only be accepted if provided through the NSW Health School Vaccination Program portal. Consent should not be provided to the school via email or other electronic form submission.
How to provide consent:
To complete online consent for your child’s school vaccinations, visit: engage.health.nsw.gov.au
Follow the steps to log in to your existing ServiceNSW account. This is the same account you may already use to renew your driver’s licence. If you do not have a ServiceNSW account, refer to ServiceNSW to create one.
