Valentines’ Day
Friday marked 2025’s first key event for our Captains and SRC – Valentine’s Day. Noted for its roses, serenades and largely anonymous notes of admiration, the Captains facilitated a fun morning visiting classrooms to surprise The Admired. During break times, the playground was a sea of pinks, whites and reds with our students dressed in mufti, enjoying live music performed by our students and bake sale offerings. The SRC raised approximately $1300 and they will soon share with the school community where these funds will be directed to benefit the students. Thank you to all the Captains, SRC and SRC coordinators, Mr Cameron Brown and Ms Maddison Jones for their work in creating such a successful day.

Staff CPR and Anaphylaxis Training

This training also covered the management of anaphylaxis, including the correct use of EpiPens, reinforcing our commitment to student safety. By staying up to date with these life-saving skills, our staff are prepared to provide immediate assistance when needed, creating a safer environment for all students.
Student Behaviour Support and Management Plan
At Rose Bay Secondary College we are committed to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Our Student Behaviour Support and Management
Plan (SBSMP) outlines the expectations, strategies, and supports in place to promote respectful, responsible, and engaged behaviour. It aligns with the NSW Department of Education’s framework and includes our school’s behaviour expectations, intervention strategies, and processes for addressing concerns in a fair and consistent manner. The plan also highlights the proactive support systems we have in place to help students develop self-regulation and positive social skills.

Who to contact at Rose Bay Secondary College
Rose Bay Secondary College values parent communication and recognises the importance of having an effective system in place to assist this process. The following document has been produced with the aim of assisting parents to be able to identify who to talk to at Rose Bay Secondary College when they feel that they need assistance with a matter. In each instance if a parent does not have the teacher’s direct email they can address the enquiry to the email below stating their child’s name and class in the subject heading. rosebay-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au
Please note that there is a considerable amount of time and effort ensuring that every child is placed into the class where they can achieve their personal best. We do not move students from one class to another unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances.

Mobile Phones
A reminder to all parents that all mobile phones are banned in NSW Secondary schools. Rose Bay Secondary College has a gate to gate policy which means that phones and air pods are switched off and in bags before entering the College gates and do not come out of bags until students exit the College gates OR enter the gymnasium to assemble for buses at the end of each day. Lunch orders can be pre-ordered or a debit/credit card/cash used to purchase food at the canteen. Any student with their phone out or hot spotting from their phone, will have the device confiscated and collected by parents at their leisure. Repeated breach of these expectations could lead to disciplinary action.

E-Bikes & Student Safety – What Parents Need to Know

What Are E-Bikes?
Electric bicycles, or e-bikes, are standard bicycles equipped with an electric motor to assist with pedalling. In New South Wales (NSW), e-bikes must be primarily pedal-powered; the motor provides assistance, particularly useful when climbing hills or facing strong winds. The motor's assistance cuts off at speeds above 25 km/h. Some modified bikes exceed this, making them illegal and unsafe.
Safety Considerations
Ensuring your child's safety while using an e-bike involves several key practices:
· Helmet Use: Wearing a helmet that meets Australian safety standards is mandatory for all e-bike riders in NSW.
· Regular Maintenance: Routine checks of brakes, tires, and the electrical system are crucial to maintain the bike's safety and performance.
· Battery Safety: Only use chargers provided by the manufacturer and avoid charging the battery overnight or unattended to prevent potential fire hazards. Recent incidents have highlighted the dangers of substandard lithium-ion batteries, which have led to fires and injuries.
Regulations and School Policies
While there are no specific age restrictions for riding personal e-bikes in NSW, it's important to note:
· School Grounds: Riding e-bikes on school premises is prohibited to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
· Road Rules: E-bike riders must adhere to the same road rules as traditional cyclists, including obeying traffic signals and not riding on footpaths unless permitted.
· Concerns About Tandem Riding: It's been observed that some students engage in tandem riding—carrying passengers on e-bikes designed for single riders. This practice is dangerous and illegal, as it increases the risk of accidents and injuries. Please discuss with your children the importance of riding solo.
How Parents Can Help
· Discuss safe riding habits with your child.
· Ensure their e-bike complies with NSW laws.
· Monitor their use to reinforce responsible riding.
By working together, we can help students ride safely and responsibly. For further information, please refer to the following information:
