Welcome back to School 2025
From the Principals Desk
A warm welcome back for 2025. The excitement was palpable on Thursday with many new students and Year 7 entering the College for the first time. Our first day commenced with rolling assemblies to welcome students back, introduce the vision for the College and remind our students about our current expectations.
College Vision
In 2025 our mantra is: the classroom is the heart of the College. On day one at every assembly, I spoke to all our students about the classroom being the “room where it happens” and encouraged them to set one learning goal to support them in being active learners. Over this term I am planning to attend every class so I can see the learning and express the value of what our students and teachers do every day. I will also be commencing lunchbox chats with a range of students to check in and get their view of the College. Invitation to bring your lunch to the Principals office will commence from Week 4 with the aim to build relationship with and hear directly our students’ view of their College experience.
College focus for 2025
Learning: The two themes this year are personal challenge and working with failure as these two attributes are key to success. We learn and achieve through failing and trying again, (determined persistence). Success comes from challenging ourselves and discomfort is a natural part of this process.
Attendance -The College will continue to monitor, encourage, and support attendance with an aim to increase the percentage of student’s attendance above 85%. Even one day absence or lateness to class can impact students learning and wellbeing. (see The Rose Bay Secondary College Student Behaviour Management Plan on the website for more details).
Community pride: Uniform -our uniform checks will continue to promote College pride and identity. If you child is out of uniform, non-uniform items will be collected and held for parent collection.
Litter and graffiti – we will be promoting absolute cleanliness and pride in our College. Students littering or graffiti will be involved in school service activities to develop civic responsibility and pride.
Student support and Wellbeing -The College has strong wellbeing supports. If you have any concerns or need to inform staff of additional information, please contact the Year advisors and (if urgent) the Year Deputy.
Additional supports are our Counsellors with student self-referral through QR code or parent referral. Our Anti Racism Officer is Ms Janaki Kremmer. Students can self-refer to Ms Kremmer or be referred by the Wellbeing team or Deputy as part of our commitment to a safe and tolerant College.
Ms Nadia Kaye is our Community Liaison Officer, she can be contacted through the school switchboard, email or through the contact no provided on the Year WhatsApp groups.
At the start of the year, we all want our students to settle in well for the academic year. Often students have some nerves about changes to their core class. Classes are carefully planned and constructed to support your child’s learning. We encourage students to face the challenge of change. We often receive requests to change classes. This will not occur except in extenuating wellbeing circumstances, and I would request parents in conversation with their child to frame change as a positive to support building student resilience, a key quality for success post school.

OnSTAGE is an annual showcase presented by the NSW Education Standards Authority, highlighting exemplary works from the 2024 Higher School Certificate (HSC) Drama students. This year, Year 11 and 12 drama students from Rose Bay Secondary College attended the event, where they were deeply inspired by the exceptional performances and creative projects on display. The showcase featured a variety of student works, including live performances, video dramas, and individual projects such as costume and set designs. The students were captivated by the high level of artistry and innovation, sparking new ideas and motivating them to push the boundaries of their own creative work.

Library News
It’s been exciting to welcome all of our students back after the long break and hoping that many of them have enjoyed their holiday reading. While we have an excellent physical collection of books, our students also have access to over 3,000 digital books through the “My School Library” icon on their student portal page. We are here to help if anyone has difficult navigating the route to the e-borrowing of these amazing titles which are being continually updated as new books are released for publishing. This year we have also subscribed to the audio versions and so students have a choice of reading or listening to books online wherever they are.
YEAR 7
The “tiles” above can be found on the homepage of “My School Library” on the student portal page. Behind the tile is a green Year 7 tile is a wealth of information assisting our Year 7 students in several subjects. This is being continually updated as changes to texts and programs occur.
The link to the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC) provides information about the 2025 PRC and links for registering their reading logs. If these are successfully completed certificates from the Department are presented at a Year assembly in Term 4.

Welcome to the NSW premier's Reading Challenge for another year!
In Week 5 our library reading periods begin. All Year 7 classes will come to the library once every cycle with their English teachers to learn how to use the resources here for their research and also to embark on a program tracking their reading progress.
