Executive Report
Farewell to Year 12
Friday 8th November marked the official end of HSC exams for our Year 12 students, who completed their clearance procedures last week, formally concluding their time with us as students. Last Wednesday they came together with teachers to celebrate their school journey at the Year 12 formal. This cohort has demonstrated resilience, commitment, and camaraderie, embodying the best qualities of our school community. We are incredibly proud of each of them and extend our warmest wishes for success and fulfillment in their future endeavors.
Uniform Procedures
The new uniform procedures were phased in for Year 9 students last week, which now applies to Year 9, 10 and 11 students. As previously communicated, any students who are not in the correct school uniform, will be accompanied to the IEF Work Lab and be provided with a temporary uniform. Students’ non-uniform items are collected, chronicled and returned to students at the end of the school day. If your child is loaned a temporary uniform, we would appreciate its return on the next school day (there is no need to launder items, this is completed by the Work Lab). For more information, please see the Student & Family Uniform Flow.
ArtExpress Nomination
We are thrilled to announce that Eleni Andrews’ Visual Arts Body of Work has been nominated for consideration in ArtExpress. This is an extraordinary recognition of Eleni’s artistic skill and talent alongside the expertise and dedication of her Visual Arts teacher Ms Tracy Arundel. The meticulous effort and organisational ability required to produce a Body of Work of such high calibre is exceptional. Eleni’s achievement showcases the power of creativity and hard work, and we eagerly await further news regarding her submission.
Appointment of Head Teacher of Social Science
Congratulations to Juliet Beiglari, who has been appointed as the substantive Head Teacher of Social Science through the merit selection process. Juliet has consistently demonstrated exceptional commitment, expertise, and vision in her field, inspiring both students and colleagues. Her leadership in Social Science will no doubt continue to strengthen and enrich our faculty, and we are fortunate to have her in this vital role.
1. Duke of Edinburgh Qualifier Journeys
Last week, a group of our students embarked on the Bronze-level Qualifier Journey for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, with another group set to depart on Thursday. This adventure, organised by Youth Advance, involves an overnight hiking expedition along the Marramarra Ridge Trail in Marramarra National Park, designed to develop self-reliance, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
During the two-day journey, students carry their own gear, set up camp, and navigate the terrain as a team. They face and overcome challenges together, building resilience and a strong sense of achievement as they fulfill this key component of the Bronze Award.
We extend our thanks to Mr. Shiva Chetty from the English faculty for his exceptional facilitation of the Duke of Edinburgh program and to all teachers who support our students on these journeys.
2. Transition Day for Incoming Year 7 Students
Last Tuesday marked the first of our transition days for incoming Year 7 students. On Transition Day, students meet their Year Advisors, Mr. Brown and Mr. Wallis, as well as other key staff members, giving them a sense of familiarity with our school community. They will also participate in engaging 'taster' workshops and enjoyable activities, which help to ease their transition into secondary school life. Our main Year 6 Orientation Day will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd, at RBSC, when we will welcome all new students as they prepare to join us next year.
We thank all staff members involved in these important events and initiatives, each of which reflects our commitment to student development, success, and well-being.

IEF News
Work Experience at Vinnies
To give real life experience to the uniform work skills lab and the Op for Inclusion Op Shop, last Thursday our older students had the fantastic opportunity of attending work experience at Vinnies . The students took on three different tasks: hanging up wedding dresses, checking that labelling necklaces, and organising the store's price tags. It was wonderful to see students growing in confidence while developing valuable work skills. Well done to all involved.
Visit to the Friendship Circle Bakery
Last week, our students enjoyed a special visit to the Friendship Circle Bakery. The students toured the bustling bakery, observing how everything operates behind the scenes. To top off the experience, they relaxed in the café with delicious hot chocolates and bakery treats. It was a wonderful opportunity to inspire our current students and see post RBSC IEF students working and showing what’s possible for the future!
Ecology Symposium
The motivation behind Waverley College’s first-ever Ecology Symposium on Thursday, 31 October was to amplify students’ voices, helping them recognise the importance of sustainability and empowering them to drive tangible change.
“In a dynamic gathering aimed at fostering environmental awareness and advocacy, students took centre-stage to discuss key ecological issues and share solutions for a sustainable future,” says Waverley College’s Ecology Coordinator Silvia Baylie.
“The event brought together students, educators, environmental experts and community members, all united by a commitment to empowering youth voices in the global environmental conversation.”
This year’s symposium highlighted two themes, ‘Traditional Custodians living harmoniously with our land, sea and sky’ and ’empowering students to use their voice’, featuring guest speakers, a student-led presentation, literary workshop and advocacy email writing.

Apply to join the DOVES Council
Applications for the DOVES Minister’s Student Council are open for 2025. The Minister's Student Council, known as the Department of Student Voices in Education and Schools (DOVES), is an initiative of the NSW Government to ensure student voices are heard in developing education policy and addressing matters of concern to students.
In October 2020 a student steering committee was formed to help co-design the council. The result is DOVES a 27-member council representing students from all Operational Directorates across NSW, including Connected Communities, who advocate on behalf of their school communities.
Read more about the DOVES Council on the about page.
From the P&C
The P&C informally runs a WhatsApp group via year.
If anyone would like to join their child’s WhatsApp group, please feel free to send an email to Nadia.kaye2@det.nsw.edu.au to be included.
It is a great way to connect with other parents and guardians of students in the same year as your child. The WhatsApp groups are used to distribute information, ask questions to see if anyone else has the same problems.

Year 10,11 and 12 students.
An important part of being an effective student is being able to take notes.
Cornell Note Taking is one way of managing note taking. Please see me at the desk if you need some help.
We also help with Note Making –
Meaning of Note Making
Making notes is the activity of keeping records from many sources. It is more than just writing down what you hear or see. Note taking is a more cerebral activity than note taking because it requires you to choose, analyse; and summarise what you hear and read. Making notes is thus an active way of study because it requires you to think because you must make decisions about what you write.
Examples of Note Making:
Mind Mapping
Digital Gardening
Zettelkasten method
Interested? Come into the Library and ask for assistance.
Mindfulness – Senior Students esp. New Year 12 students…
Another important aspect of schooling is mindfulness. Please join us Tuesday mornings (Senior study space) for some tips on meditation and managing stress.

If you would like to organise a book club for your year please see the front desk.
